The more I practice the lessons, I have on my schedule, the less I can play them...

That is so fatiguing... so dismotivating...

Does anyone else out there has that feeling...
What about your practice-schedules? Do you practice every day or, e.g., only each second day or what?

I'm soo sorry to hear this sad.gif
In my case,I don't practice each day cause I PLAY each day.
But when I was at the early stage I used to PRACTICE 6-7 hours per day.
And each time when I couldn't figure out the lick it gave the motivation to keep going.
My advice is just to continue playing and practicing as much as possible.
Of course there are times when everything goes wrong and slow... huh.gif
Just be hard worker and have patience!! smile.gif

Remember to practice/play what you think sounds cool and what you'll enjoy playing! not the things everyone else is doing.
Thats where the main dose of inspiration will come from- finding your own musical journey.

Thanks to South Wales and Sarajevo (isn´t the internet amazing?!)

So... I´m gonna remember your good and friendly advices, but first, I´m gonna pause for one or two days, only playing piano, hoping to get out of the cramped phase, I am in at the moment.

Greetings from Berlin,
Burkhard

Perhaps some pure and boring technique lessons would do good. Meaning running the same patterns up and down the neck for hours.
If a lessons contains a technique you don't master perhaps that's what you get stuck on and the more you practice it incorrectly, the worse it gets.

I like to practice and play all day, but the last two-three months have been crazy so I've had very little time for playing.

I had a situation a while ago where i was improving everyday in my speed, ie i was able to increase the metronome speed everyday. Until one day i stopped doing it for a bit and when i went back i was crap and had to turn it right down and work my way up again. You have to keep at it, practice lots and don't rush yourself

btw, I read your comment on that thread yesterday, you were the only one who displayed working gray matter imho in that thread.

regarding the poster, in my experience, with what successes I have had in any endeavor, it is generally the case that I set concise short term goals (daily), and am consistent in doing so for an extended period. I don't think it is all that important what your precise strategy is, just to set daily goals and accomplish them.

Also, one can really waste time by trying to accomplish something that cannot be accomplished in the short term, trying to beat it into submission. I have a problem with that, you need to know when to just move on, and figure it will take some time, it gets unproductive after awhile. For example sweeps, I really don't think there is a big difference in practicing them 30 minutes or 10 hours in one sitting, that just takes time. So you waste 9 hours and 30 minutes if you don't figure that out.

edit: replaced the word setting with sitting, duh.

I practice 0-2 hours now. I wish I had more time, but I don't.
So, I try to focus on each minute in my practice.

Playing for people or being watched by people is a great motivation for me.
About a year ago, I started uploading my gutar playing on You Tube on every weekend.
Since then, I made a good progress because it motivates me to prepare well and get better.

Hey hoppe!
I agree with Muris. Absolutely.
Try to PLAY everyday. Also, play what you love (Lennon's songs, am I right?).

Take care.

My advice is a little different.
If you've been practicing everyday for a while and don't feel any improvement, take a break.
Don't touch the guitar for a couple days.
That will give time to your muscles and brain to process all the material you've been working on.
After a couplke days, go back and you should find some improvement.
It works for me.
When I used to have my daily practice sessions, I would always take a day off completely. It really helps!

+1 !

I have often needed to go away on business and leave my guitar behind for several days. So not a planned layoff rather an enforced one. However, I often feel that once I pick the guitar up after a layoff, it is as David describes - you do benefit from an occasional rest.

I agree! 100%

Sometimes, when I play alot for consecutive days.
I tend to get stuck in the rut of playing the same thing, and it can get pretty boring.

So, every once in awhile I take a day or two off, just to refresh.

It's not as hard as one would think, I just will Watch tv or a Movie, or read some books in my spare time when I'm not playing during the break.

I usually find that after the break, I can play alot faster and cleaner than before, and alot of the stamina is back in my fingers. smile.gif
