When I was in Boston earlier this year I bought myself a Suhr Thornbucker + Bridge and Thornbucker neck pickup with the intention of putting together a double humbucker Tele.

With all the changes in my life at the moment and buying a house, that doesnt look like it will happen for a good while, so I'm going to put them in my Epiphone Dot (yes the pick ups are nearly the same price as the guitar.

I'll try and do a video of the before and after to see if the tones are a noticable improvement.

Might have to delay this as I will need to change strings to do this. I don't think I'll get the pickups out without removing the strings completely

Now do I stick with the flat wounds that are currently on it or change to a normal string?

Such decisions...

I've just ordered a wiring harness so all the electronics will be top notch and also cost more the the guitar did. Ah but that's the way things go sometimes.

Be prepared for some frustrated posting replacing stuff in a semi hollow is meant to be a challenge even with all the little tricks about!

I also decided to dull the ultra glossy Epiphone poly finish on this guitar.

Boy was that a mistake, all the tutorials make it seem simple, but when the light hits and you see all the scratches and scuffs in what you hoped would be a nice satin type finish mad.gif

I'll post up pictures that I'm taking through the process.

Live and learn eh smile.gif You gotta make a few bad mods before the good ones start showing up. Just like you gotta play a few bad notes before the good notes show up smile.gif

Is this the same set here?

I am would be interested in hearing your opinion of them and some demo vids as well. Good luck with the project.

I have the Thornbucker + Bridge pickup and the normal Thornbucker neck pickup. I grabbed these when I had to travel to Boston and Rhode Island for work and had chance to pop into Matt's Music just outside Boston.
They didn't have the normal bridge pickup just the plus, but it saved me around €80 buying them in the States.

Here's a link to some of the pictures I took whilst ruining the finish!

I apologise for the crap video, one thing I didn't do was show the pickups at around 2 or 3 on the volume, on a medium gain preset it cleans right up really well.

WOW. I must say those sound great. It's amost like a mix of a PAF with a big more agression. Somehow classic and modern at the same time.

I agree quite good and sort of what I like for PU's too (hot bridge with a pretty sounding neck, combinations are always more than usable)

Yeah , I'm mean it's still pretty low output for a 'hot bridge' at 8.8K and the neck is 7.3K

I'm certainly now a fan of low output pickups!
