Sensible - try Recuva!! It is a $20 download that got back all of my photos AFTER I had wiped out my hard drive! It is an amazing program!!

You should try to get back the contents of that flash drive with some recovery software! Its possible that all is there.

Try some file recovery software, they work in those situations well.

Something similar happened to me when I was moving the audio files of my bands' first album to a removable drive!!. Fortunatly, I didn't erase the files from the pc.
