I was transferring some files from my old PC to my new one using a Flash Drive. I loaded them on, removed the Drive and walked about 20 feet or so, plugged it into the new PC and guess what??
It was empty!! All the files had disappeared into the ether!! ohmy.gif

Seriously, I've checked and rechecked the old PC and the files are definitely not there and the Flash Drive is completely empty!!!

I'd say that it's not that important, well it isn't 'Life Threatening', but there was a lot of stuff for the Wiki on there. About 20 Guitarist articles and quite a few Gear ones that took a lot of researching!

I think Can has a point. That would be rare, but if you didn't eject the media it may have got lost on the removable media. It's very odd that it is also gone from the host PC. This is unfortunate, Jonesy. I tend to keep my computers networked and just move things that way. But I don't want to tell you what you should have done, because what you did was totally reasonable, with just an unfortunate outcome. Sorry bro.

Murphys law!

It sucks!
But were you cutting instead of copying, since you lost them? Press CRTL-Z before doing anything else to roll back the cut. Or check the bin!

As Praetorian said, you can still get your files if you download a program to recover them.
But do not use your PC anymore otherwise your files could be overwritten.

When you delete (or move) files on your computer they do not disappear, they are just not referenced anymore in the files directory and the place where they were is marked as over-writable.

You should try to get back the contents of that flash drive with some recovery software! Its possible that all is there.

Thanks for all the hints guys!! biggrin.gif
Don't ask me exactly what happened as I can't explain it BUT I ran a Recovery Program and it's found all the files and I've managed to swap them across!
Unfortunately though parts of the files are still corrupted so I'm still going to have to rewrite some of the parts but I haven't lost everything!! biggrin.gif

Thing is Fran.. none of them were actually completed articles. I was researching Discographies and pictures etc for them.
If you saw the speed at which I type then you'd know why I don't write them straight into the Wiki!! laugh.gif

Something similar happened to me when I was moving the audio files of my bands' first album to a removable drive!!. Fortunatly, I didn't erase the files from the pc.
