GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Mvc : Nomination Thread

Posted by: Andrew Cockburn Aug 13 2009, 02:50 PM

This is the thread to nominate members who you want to become "Most Valued Contributers" (MVC).

Check this thread for an explanation of the program:

You can add as many nominations as you lilke in a single post, but for each one you must describe what they have done or are doing to deserve promotion to an MVC - just a couple of sentences will do, but bear in mind that for your nomination to stand out the more thorough a job you do the better!

Current Nominees:

ZakkWylde
Jafomatic
Sollesnes
Kaznie_NL
Visi0n
Superize
SensibleJones
NoSkill
Caelumamittendum
Marc_maiden
Tolek
Canis
Bondy
Uncleskillet
Lcsdds
Staffy

Just cruised through the member list expecting to this nominee was already in the senior group and ... he's not!

So. I hereby nominate ZakkWylde to be added to the ranks of GMC senior for the following reasons:

- ZakkWylde will go out of his way to find you a left handed guitar in austria
- ZakkWylde will find you the address of that music store
- ZakkWylde will translate love songs into german for lonely southern californian gentlemen
- ZakkWylde is seven feet tall (yes, I've heard)
- ZakkWylde will help you wire your new pickups from far away
- ZakkWylde knows the exact frequencies of resonation for the wood that was used to build Vin Diesel's head
- ZakkWylde also knows the correct types of guitar pickups that would work best in Vin Diesel's head

Really, just that he's very well experienced and seems to go quite far out of his way to help others. Two qualities I personally hold in high regard.

Posted by: kaznie_NL Aug 13 2009, 05:33 PM

I agree with jafo, ZakkWylde! for the Gear section! He helped me tons with my new pickup installation! I also think Jafomatic is a good one, because he's very active on chat (so real-time helping) and he has helped me quite a lot with the mixing of my competition entry!

Kaz, I'm totally flattered and moved by this, but I really doubt I've been around long enough for such an honor to seem appropriate.

Thanks though, means a lot smile.gif

Jep, I actually wanted to mention that as a minus point tongue.gif The problem with peeps who are just around, is that they often leave as fast as they came! Thanks for your support man!

I nominate jafomatic, the one who's been babysitting me in the chat room throughout this holiday, helped me fix various bits and pieces on guitar, acquire greater knowledge in the realm of music (theory and practice), edited my personal photo just out of pure curiosity and benevolence, and definitely set a very good mood in the chat's atmosphere, always ready to help those new to GMC and guitar.

No need to thank me, jafomatic, it is I who should thank you ! smile.gif

EDIT: In my enthusiasm I forgot to add that I think Sollesnes also deserves a little more privileges in this community, first of all because he is Norwegian (joking tongue.gif), he's always helpful in chat, knows more theory than most, has guitar skills that people would kill him for, is going to play Mojo Oro full speed, and because he is a very active, respected, helpful member. I would like to add that he has helped me with feedback when it comes to my guitar playing, and also to my composition skills (I'm referring to Emir's wonderful neoclassical collaboration).

Posted by: Iluha Aug 13 2009, 06:17 PM

I would like to nominate Kaznie_NL and Visi0n

Kaznie for the reason he's been here for a long time and always made his best to help others despite his young age, and I don't think there's a gmc member who doesn't know him tongue.gif

Visi0n has dissapeard from the forum over the last couple of months as well as myself and other gmc "oldies", but I would still like to nominate him because he was one of the first people I met on gmc and he really helped me progress and I feel that through his incredible recordings he inspired many GMCers to improve smile.gif

Posted by: ZakkWylde Aug 13 2009, 06:25 PM

Wow I am nominated! Thanks guys!

My nominations would be GMCer's who contribute a lot to the Forum, have a reasonable post count, are always friendly and helpful, participate in almost every action going on at GMC (Mtp, virtual bands, Rec, Wiki, Student Instructor, etc...).
Overall: Members that make this forum what it is today!

-KaznieNL: 3500+ posts, almost 2 year member, active Wiki:er and helping Fran to coordinate the wiki if I remember correctly, VB member and almost partaking in every Collaboration, active on the forum all the time, always friendly and helpfull GMCer!

-Supersize: 3000+ posts, 2year+ member, Student Instructor, in a lot of collabs, we all look up to his dedication in the REC program, metalhead happy.gif , constantly posting in the forums and always friendly!

To all nominees: What will be your personal slogan IN CASE you become a senior?

I can't nominate one or two people but here is my list of Seniors

- Marc_Maiden
- Jafomatic
- Superize
- Kaznie
- ZakkWylde
- Sensible Jones
- NoSkill

All these guys are great to talk to and each bring something different and unique to GMC community. Some of them are great for Wiki, some for recording ideas and advices while some are just great motivators and daily contributors to GMC community.
You all deserve to become GMC Seniors if I was to decide. Good luck to all - it will be very hard for me to vote for only 3 of you!!!

I think the answer to the first part is yes. You're a senior and a member - and any member has a right to nominate someone.

Canis has already been nominated and as this is a nomination thread one nomination AFAIK is all that is necessary at this stage. Again AFAIK multiple nominations for any individual doesn't add any additional weight with Andrew and Kris.

ps - Canis - just using you as an example mate - nothing untoward meant by it smile.gif

Posted by: sted Aug 17 2009, 07:56 AM

My nominations:

Sensible Jones: always funny, great wiki articles, cool and unusual posts (Pink strat anyone?) and also very knowledgable and helpful.

Zakkwylde: Very active member, always wants to go the extra mile to help people, very knowledgeable and helpful too!

after doing some research i updated my list:

Kaznie
Zakk
Canis
Sensible Jones

Kaznie:
-very active member
-writes in an interesting, easy, logical and intelligent way (he's only 15!)
-wiki writer
-has been here for a long time

I'm sure that there are a lot of other GMCers who deserve to be a senior member, but I'm not able to judge them now because I've been not very active in the last time (school, concerts, not at home) and can't remember their posts. Kaznie was always one of my favorite posters and that's why I nominate him. smile.gif Kaznie, you rock! laugh.gif

Hey Steve, this was post 5000 for you so congrats man! Happy Post Day! laugh.gif

Thanks for the nomination it really touches my heart. wub.gif I have been around here for about 2 years or so and have tried to make a difference for GMC and it's members with the free time I could find. This is the best community of musicians I have ever had the honor of being a part of. I don't regret a thing. You all are great and I wish I had more time to spend with each of you but we all have a life and some responsibilities. I will be able to get back to the Chat's I have had with some of you and the Welcomes to our new members really soon.

Regards to all, smile.gif

but just to add here, this is a nomination thread only, the names put forward here means that they will be looked at and considered as candidates it doesnt mean that someone with 5 or so nominations will automatically become a senior or be selected as candidates, you only need to be nominated once in this thread to be "considered".

Thanks for all the nominations guys - as you can see I have changed this from a Senior nomination thread to an MVC nomination thread.

We will keep the list of nominated members active at the top of the thread, and start running votes very soon now to pick our first MVCs !

However, please keep nominating deserving members here if they are not already in the list at the top - we want to keep this program rolling for as long as there are deserving members out there - and who gets to be an MVC is entirely up to you guys, the members as you nominate and vote!

Two qualities I personally hold in high regard.

hahah, those are good reasons!

by the way a friend is offering a DiMarzio Blaze 7 string bridge pickup, would this be any good for my RG1527? he's givint it for a very low price,

Zakk should get the title without any vote pool this time, the outcome is to obvious to waste time on it wink.gif

Posted by: Andrew Cockburn Feb 4 2010, 11:04 PM

Well that wouldn't be very democratic! But I can't see him not winning next time smile.gif

We'll be running a new vote soon, I just need to confirm the timing with Kris.

OK Guys, my first responsibility as a new Senior is to happily announce the next MVC Vote!!!
Let's have any additional nominations in this thread please!
Check the list on the first post so as we don't get any duplicates.
I'll be making the Polling Thread very soon!!
Good Luck Chaps!!

Adding a note here instead of your nice clean other thread:

Some of the folks on this nomination list have been far far FAR less active since the list was originally compiled; myself included to a degree. I don't know if that matters, but it seemed worth mention.

btw: vote for zakk

Posted by: Ruzz Feb 19 2010, 11:22 PM

I would like to nominate maharzan for always hanging around and helping people with their questions and problems..

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Feb 20 2010, 02:17 PM

No one to add, all these members are well active in the community, and they all deserve to get the prize. We'll see who will win smile.gif

Posted by: ZakkWylde Feb 20 2010, 02:36 PM

I agree that some members aren't as active as when they were nominated but I also haven't seen any new strong contributors...

That's me. Actually, I wasn't even active when I was nominated, I think. My activity has dwelled quite a bit in recent times. I'd always like to add in and help, but you guys are replying soooo fast than by the time I get my post written answers have already been given and all there's left to say is like: "Oh, yeah, I agree with Zakk" laugh.gif Damn you!

And when I try to be helpful playing live on video chat in front of a few viewers, when I'm just about intending to do some instructional thingie, instructors join the chat and start video chatting and steals my audience of 2 people! Give a guy a break! laugh.gif Damn you, Ramiro! laugh.gif

Jafo for president xD

ZAkk still hasnt won yet?

aieeeeee

nominate zakk tongue.gif

Posted by: Caelumamittendum Feb 23 2010, 09:59 PM

Also, I reckon that some members are getting less active on the forum, myself included and more active in the chat, and that shouldn't put them behind the queue in all this. In other words, Chatomatic is very often on the chat helping others! smile.gif

Posted by: ruben_mcn Feb 23 2010, 10:58 PM

my vote goes for Zakk smile.gif anything you need zakk will be there to help make the right decision..

Posted by: maharzan Feb 24 2010, 12:38 AM

+1 for Zakk!

Posted by: Sollesnes Feb 24 2010, 09:05 AM

Is there a new one underway soon? I kind of get the feeling that some aspects of GMC gets forgotten as time goes by..smile.gif

Like the competitions!

Posted by: Gitarrero Jul 24 2010, 05:58 AM

Right...why not give the MVC and the competitions a bump? I mean, this is a community and I think it is perfectly fine when students reanimate some forgotten features.

Posted by: maharzan Aug 5 2010, 10:43 AM

It is 10 days and as usual these posts just get dumped into bottom. I will bump this thread so admins get serious butt on GMC! It looks like bumping threads work.. biggrin.gif

I will probably get kicked out but GMC is not the same place it used to be when I joined.. sad.gif Its time to get refreshed with new energies.

Why would you get kicked out for writing your opinion? That's what is so great about GMC, you can criticize things without being kicked out, instead the staff will work on it...usually. But I agree with you, it seems to me like some things have gotten a bit slower over time. That's why I think it's up to us students to bring new life to some things, you can't blame it all on the admins. I'd also say, if nobody answers to a bump for an MVC vote in ten days, maybe people are not interested in this feature anymore, which is perfectly fine. Things change over time!

Posted by: Sensible Jones Aug 6 2010, 12:24 PM

No worries guys!! biggrin.gif
I'll be on the case with a new MVC Vote soon!
I had a few Technical problems and then i was away for a while but I'm back now and will get the ball rolling soon!!!

Just wondering if MVC is still being upheld, or if it perhaps is time to unsticky the topic? smile.gif

I think it's time for a new MVC vote, what do you guys think?

I think that due to smaller activity nowadays it would be difficult to really choose one member that would be on par with the previous MVC...
