Introduction of yourself?
My name is Amol and I'm currently a student

How long have you been playing?
I've been playing for 4 years now

What are your strong points and what you feel you know now?
I can improvise over most diatonic songs without any difficulties, I have a basic handle on most techniques, and I know enough theory to fake my way through most situations.

What your weak points are or you would like to learn?
I have to build a repertoire, and by that I mean have a library of songs that I can play from beginning to end in a complete run. To achieve this goal without consolidating guitar parts into one I know I have to record multiple tracks and I am willing to do this, but this is where I am stuck right now. I have trouble reading complicated rhythms and reading music is general is a very slow process for me.

Do you currently have a pracitice routine? If so, please describe it briefly.
My practice entails ear training, in which I learn melodies and chord progressions from songs that I enjoy by ear. Also I have melodic soloing training where I play a chord progression and practice following the chords. Other than that I also practice learning songs from sheet music or tab. As for technical practice I have not stopped but have considerably cut back on practicing scales and arpeggios, sweep picking. I still practice controlling my vibrato, and also bending from odd note choices to the target note I want.

How much time you have to dedicate to the MTP program?
I have other commitments to exams and work I must do for school, but otherwise will invest enough to get the job done.

Do you have a video or web camera currently?
Yes.

What kind of music are you into?
My main influence is metal, and more particularly Megadeth. When not listening to metal I enjoy rock ballads, particularly Marty Friedman's playing style. Though I also like various other styles of music including jazz, and classical, but I mainly enjoy listening to more guitar oriented music. Another artist I really admire is Kiko Loureiro. I also like acoustic fingerstyle music, but I have not had much time to study that.

What lessons have you already completed or are working on?
I have only worked on one lesson really, since I am fairly new here, and that was the John Petrucci Melodic soloing lesson.

You found your way bro and welcome to the family! We are going to have a lot of fun here. wink.gif

First thing I want you to work on is this.
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...asing-beginner/

This will help you get better control of your Vibrato, Bends and Rhythem. You will need to slow your playing down some and get in the grove. When you get comfortable then you can just let it rip!! Put your own passion behind it.

I would like an upload by next weekend at the latest but if you have questions or problems then please ask.

Congratulations and welcome to the group!! smile.gif

Edit: My real name is Jeff.

Heck yeah Amol !! This was really good man! smile.gif You played it very clean and I like your right hand picking.

Well done! I can see that we are going to have to find some more challenging things for the next lesson.

One thing I would like to comment on that I feel you could do even better at is your vibrato. It is good but I would like you to explore that aspect of your playing with this lesson. Lets do it one more time OK. wink.gif Go back and just watch and listen to his vibrato in the main video. His vibrato is wider and more in tempo with the song. Yours seems a little narrow (short) and shaker. I good way to practice this is to set your metronome and then just pick a note using vibrato and get it to fit in the beat.

Looking forward to your next take smile.gif

Cheers

Yeah, the vibrato was really dry on the first take! I practiced after I got home today and tried watch the full speed video and smooth out my vibrato, it's still not great, but here's the 2nd take... I have an exam tomorrow so can't do much more today gah! tongue.gif

Your take was very nice once again. smile.gif There was a small improvement with the vibrato but not quit what I think you are capable of. wink.gif Just curious, do you use .010 gauge strings?

I am having a hard time with the information you provided in your introduction figuring you out. I can't really get a feel for what it is you feel like you want to work on.

So Amol, here is a lesson that I think can really move your playing to the next leave. Lets work on this and please feel free to give me more comments when you have time. Now make that guitar scream bro! cool.gif

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/in-the...llad-and-blues/

Best of luck with your exam.

PS: Have you thought about setting up a Youtube account for your uploaded lessons. You will soon run out of storage space on the GMC server so think about it. If you need help let me know.

Hey Jeff! Really? Both the lessons you picked have been pretty much up my alley hahah! I do need to get my vibrato up to par, and I'm glad you pointed it out! The new lesson looks fun, I'll try and get it down over the next few days if possible. As for the strings, you guessed right, they are 10's tongue.gif Can I manage the files on the GMC server, I could just clear the old ones, but I don't know how :huh:rolleyes:

Oh, also I want to be able to record in a DAW and make backing tracks myself if you can help with that too I'd appreciate it!!! I also want to work on chords and chord progressions, because I want to be able to pick up changes off recordings and I have a hard time doing that now.

Well you could manage them by deleting them off the server but the whole point is to be able to monitor your progress. We can't do that if your delete the files. Setting up a Youtube account is a piece of cake and this would be the best solution. If you have any questions just ask.

Recording into a DAW and playing around can be a lot of fun. I use Reaper for now. There is a free trial you can download and to purchase a license is very cheep. It's very easy to use and a lot of folks here use it. What other equipment do you have? First you need a way to plug your guitar into the PC. Are you able to do this with your sound card or another device like a Line6 Tone Port?

Hey Jeff!!

Man this one is a little tough, I learned most of the licks pretty fast, but keeping them in time is really a challenge! Especially the bluesy part! Here's what it sounds like so far

Jeff, I just sent you a PM, this is another issue but whenever I send PM's they're not being saved in my "sent messages" area is there something I have to check so they'll stay there, or someone I can contact to get this fixed?

Just scroll down after you are done typing you message. You will see to check boxes below the text window. One says "Save A Copy in my sent items" or something like that. You should be good to go. smile.gif

Downloading your file now.

Hell yeah once again my brother!!!!! tongue.gif

Your doing really well. I have listened to it several times, mainly to try and find the week points in your playing. Well that's what I'm suppost to do right? wink.gif

This is just a thought and maybe I'm being picky but I see a lot of potential here. Some of the bends are just a hair away from being on pitch. The vibrato is better but still a little stiff here and there. What do you think about using .009 thru .042 gauge or .009 thru .046 (Hybrid). Make it easier on yourself. I really think this would make a huge difference and just the change that we need.

I really have know major issues with this take at all. Keep in mind it is the little detailed things that will seperate a good player and a great player. My suggestion about string gauge could make the difference for you.

Your upload made my night. Lets do another take focusing on the bends, bends/vibrato and other things. I will find you some more cool stuff to work on. smile.gif

Hey Jeff, here's another take of the Gary Moore Style Lesson... actually I had the worst luck lol, I don't usually break any strings, but I was practicing the bend over and over again near the end of the song and broke my high E... hahaha.. I didn't have any more so I actually had to put a B in the place, which made those E bends a little stiff ohmy.gif But here's what came out, it's actually kinda funny I have the whole incident on video laugh.gif

As for the 9's, I played on 9's for about 2 years before switching back and forth between the 9's and 10's for almost a year... I overall liked the tone and feel of the 10's over the 9's, but you're right it is much easier to do vibratos and bends on the 9's. I think I'll try for now to just stick it out and improve on the 10's, if it doesn't get better I can always drop down, and the hard work will pay off tongue.gif

Ok Amol, .010 gauge it is bro!

The second take was better with some of the bends. You hit a few of them more on pitch so good job for that. Another good take!

Here is what I would like to do next.

I want you to work on this lesson. SRV kicks butt so have some fun with this.
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-gu...vaughan-lesson/

Also I want you to take a look at this lesson. Really listen to what he is telling you and try to pick up some cool ideas.
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...-improvisation/

I would like a upload of the SRV lesson when your finished. The second Improv lesson I don't want an upload of that! I want you to learn from both and give me an upload of something you compose. You may use either lessons backing track. I want you to show me who you are as a player.

Great work so far Amol. Looking forward to you uploads. smile.gif

Hey Jeff, I learned most of the SRV lesson, but I'm having a few issues:

There is a bend on the 8th fret on the B, followed by a bend on the G also at the 8th. I'm having trouble making a clean transition between the two, what do you do to stop the B string from ringing?
