Hey GMC. smile.gif

For a while now I've been recording via the line-in on the back of my PC through a Korg AX1500G processor.
It's been working smoothly, but then the other day when I opened it and recorded some audio, it was all slooooow, chorus'ish, echo'ish, delay'ish and down frequented. So pretty much terrible tongue.gif

Then if I restart my computer, it sometimes works again but not always.

Any suggestions? I tried re-installing Audacity and my sound drivers, and after I reinstall the sound drivers and reboot, it works...for a while, and then it just crashes the sound again.

Help is greatly apprectiated! smile.gif

Hmmm thats a tough one, perhaps you have a virus that is corrupting your sound drivers. Or it could be a conflict with something else running in the background.

Try shutting down all non-essential programs with ctrl-alt delete in the process manager and see if it clears up.

Reinstalling audio drivers (and downloading new ones is one step) .Next step I would suggest is to check if the right sample rate is set in the recording software - 44100 hz. Also try choosing the right sound driver in the recording softwares preferences as well..

it might also be a hardware problem. If you have kind of a slow pc (very few RAM and / or a bad ("onboard") soundcard) it might have problems to "get" it all in the right time and this is when the sound crashes... i had the same problmes with cubase when starting to record two inputs.

hope that helps

cheers

Thanks for the replies.

@Daniel: Tried that, but it doesn't seem to work. :S Also scanned the computer and theres no virusses at all.

@Bogdan: Tried that too and it didn't help either....sad.gif

@fire: It is indeed an older PC but should very well meet the requirements by a good standard. But i have 1gb ram, and as I said, I have been able to record nicely with it till the crashes started.

Yeah, it is perfectly alright.

Now I am just profoundly confused! huh.gif I did what Daniel Robertson said about closing some instances that were running in the background, and as I had bot IE and Firefox running and consuming some RAM I closed them and suddenly the sound was fine! Recording now again, will try to figure out some other day what went wrong laugh.gif
Thanks for your help! smile.gif

How much RAM do you have on your computer ?? That must be it than! Firefox and IE tend to eat a large portion of RAM memory..

I got 1gb of DDR ram, so it shouldn't be the problem, as only half the memory was occupied. Well, it works now at least...smile.gif

1GB can be a small figure for DAW because XP eats away about 1/4 of RAM so you have around 700MB effectively and that is not too much, so try not to have anything in the background while working and it should be fine mate.
