The Power Chords lesson explains palm muting in the context of getting that classic metal chunking. I don't think there's any lesson out there yet that explains muting in terms of note control....keeping a note short or muting a single string in the middle of a chord, etc.

One of Pavel's sweep picking lessons goes a little into it with what to do with the right hand but I'm nowhere near that level. It looks to me like there's some left-hand muting going on on the backing riff video for the Kirk Hammett lesson, but there's nothing really explaining of the muting technique. Especially from a beginner's point of view.

I'll second that.

I've been having a really hard time keeping string noise down, especially when bending.
