If you had to go out in the street with an acoustic guitar in order to make some money what would you play? Imagine that situation. You have made a living by being a musician but now due to bad economic times you can't find jobs & the only way to bail your self out of the hole is to grab your guitar go on the street and play So what would you play? lets put some ideas together.

Probably some folk music like Robbie Basho or Simon and Garfunkel.
Simon and Garfunkel-Sounds of Silence
Robbie Basho- Blue Crystal Fire

I would play a few sad songs that I can do with my guitar and my voice as well

I've busked a few summers here in Galway, I found I got more money if I did songs that children liked, they'll bug their parents for money. I didn't do any trad irish songs, because even if the Americans love hearing them the exchange rate is tough for them so they don't throw money just stay and listen,
I did a mix of folk, country and acoustic rock stuff, surprisingly mostly unknown songs.
Play songs that you think the people with money to spare will like, rather than what you like, the girls you think are hot will like etc

You can make truck loads of money busking on the streets.
I would suggest probably just doing impro rather than a song, but doing some funk slap techniques with tight rhythm. People love something which is multiple leveled and looks impressive to watch. For acoustic guitar, tapping the body and slapping seems to draw the biggest crowd, takes a bit to learn thou, but then just loop it adding bits and pieces every now and then to change it up.

I must say you have some fine picks there I am biased of course, but being from Kentucky I"m a fan of Bluegrass in general and Alison Krauss in particular, and living in GA it's hard not to like hometown boys SEVENDUST. Music really does cross all borders

Last summer I was out playing guitar downtown with my case in front of me. The first song I played was Story of my Life and all these firefighters from the firestation across the road from where I was playing came out in full uniform and started dancing and cheering me on. Strange to meet some punk firefighters...

Very good question! I use to play on the street long time ago! It's one of the best ways to gain fans!!! I have learned that it's not about what you play it's about how you play! If you have a good and fun show people will stop by and listen! And that's what you are looking for!

I agree man I never tried it but, I am sure that it's just like on youtube - a good video gets a lot of views - a good street performer gets a lot of attention and maybe more money than other street performers.
