I don't know what prices you have in your local stores, but I definitely recommend trying out Peavey Grind 5 BXP bass if you can find it. Here's the pic:

I usually try out guitars and stuff at local stores but I mostly buy from Thomann.de if I can.

Something like this should be decent :

in that price range, i LOVE the ibanez btb670, amazing bass!
(there are 5-6 strings versions too  )

it is beautiful and it plays like a dream, super thin neck, LOW action, active BARTOLINI pickups, it's very good!
