Pod XT vs X3 vs HD
I heard the HD model is an entire remake and can be almost compared against the Axe FX! I've seen the youtube videos, sounds great with djent styled playing. However, what's it like with Hi Gain Metal Shredding? I'm wondering for high gain metal: Pod XT - with Metal Model Pack (Hi Gain Tones) Pod X3 Pod HD The Pod XT well sounds digital, but with tweaking and the model packs installed makes a huge difference. Surprisingly, I heard the HD doesn't hit the mark with metal playing compared to its predecessors (with model packs installed)? I doubt this, but anyone compared them. Also, is there a big difference between the HD300 vs HD400 vs HD500 series? Anyone used and abused the pod series, please give feedback what you like/hate about them, cheers! Thanks for you reply.
Does the HD series has that tube amp tone/feel? I quite liked playing blues on a BlackStar tube amp, total difference feeling. However, I didn't like the effects range and the idea of having to deal with the values (warm up / cool down / blowing up), so decided against moving to tube. I'm curious to know if this HD would be more suited for my taste. I play lead and rhythm, metal / rock / blues / shred / etc. Mostly hi gain tones, so i need a good range of effects. Also is it best to effect loop or preamp? I'm using a Les Paul Gibson - Standard DC guitar with Laney Hardcore Max - HCM65R amp. I've been blown away by the Axe Fx, although many people say the POD HD is great. I would get the Axe Fx but the price difference is big.

I would also get AxeFX as soon as I had the chance, and that chance may not come soon, considering the price.
However, I think if you get HD model, you will get something with value that you can experiment with. It will suit your needs for couple of years. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

Yeah, I heard they reduced the number of amps on the Pod HD, but high quality over quantity any day!
The AxeFx sounds awesome, but double or more the price heh! -------------------- Play Games Arcade Take a break, Play Games! Play the best free online flash games at Aaron's Game Zone like Bloons Tower Defense 4! |

Line 6 was never really great with hi-gain presets, nor any of the digital modelers for that matter. The thing where they started to come near the tube amp feel is somewhere in the crunch region. Anything more modern and aggressive and it starts to loose definition and clarity, specially in the mix.

@Ivan, you are pretty much correct, something I've noticed, the Pod sounds rather digital and not hi gain enough for metal.
Though I noticed a huge improvement with hi gain, after purchasing the Metal Shop Model: http://line6.com/modelPacks/metal.html It's really bs that it's already been built into the hardware and just make you purchase a rather expensive code to unlock it's juice, but still was worth it. I'm wondering how that compares to a stardard HD series, or if they would also have same/better quality or it's own series of model pack (yet again). I went to the Rockshop and tried out the Pod HD500, it sounds pretty sweet. Hated most of the standard settings thou, a lot of them where just effects (sound cool but not of real use). I use to love effect when I was a beginner, but now I just want a solid hi gain tone I can jam on, no decent metal tones to start out with (you got to download or make them). It looks to be a real serious tweakers heaven, I've afraid of spenting more time setting the thing up then playing, lol. However, once you got a good tone, jamming for hours with it.
The store offered me $100 off the price... $899NZ still freaken expensive compared to purchasing it in the states for around the $600NZ mark on special I found (almost the same price as the HD300 here, lol), only issue they wont import it into NZ, that sucks, I would of grab it and even pay the extra shipped it. Possibly you can ask someone to import it for you there?
Also, there is one postal forwarding company that I used on several occasions: myus.com The packages run with DHL, so it's very secure shipping. It's a bit pricy but well worth it. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

Ivan that was just what I needed!
(one day ago) - they had a special on in the states $429US ($270 off the original) = $533NZ on amazon, even with the import costs + GST + shipping, it still would of been a great deal. Deal gone up to $499US = $620NZ now (thinking about it since shipping and extra costs, etc). I guess it would also have no warranty valid here. -------------------- Play Games Arcade Take a break, Play Games!
