GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Lesson Planner And Other Improvements! :)

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Dec 14 2007, 03:32 PM

Hey there,

Finally, finally, finally some new stuff!

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/

This is something we started working on during spring this year!

Choose your level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) - then choose your preferred style. Click suggest and get practicing! If you don't like the suggestion you can click "choose another lesson".

The lesson plan will be synchronized with "Bookmarks" (which is the next big thing we have got coming). This way you will be able to save your lesson plan. Until then we suggest perhaps saving a screenshot or maybe printing the page. You can of course redo the lesson plan any time - but new lessons will constantly be added to it.

The "lesson plan" solution will most likely need some polishing - so all feedback is appreciated!

A little bonus that comes with this, is that all lessons now have a difficulty level (1-10). IMPORTANT: No one can objectively determine a level of difficulty, so this is just a very very rough guideline.

Also, from today the search feature will give you spelling suggestions. You will probably not notice this too much in the beginning - but hopefully this will be useful as the feature will be self-learning. (with a little help from the admins that is blink.gif )

Awesome Kris ... love it already biggrin.gif

Awesome smile.gif but is it possible to save a list?

EDIT: oh just read that it will be possible in the future !

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Dec 14 2007, 03:57 PM

Thanks for the comments biggrin.gif- as always when installing new stuff there is some turbulence.

For some of you the site might not be working quite as it should now - we are on it, though!

Posted by: Iluha Dec 14 2007, 04:05 PM

Hmm here's a small suggestion, how bout also making it possible to make our own lists?
as it is now, first you can only make a list of 6 lessons, and second you can only make a list of same criterions(Level and typs).

So how bout also enabling us to make our own lists? consisting any lessons we'd like! smile.gif

You come up with something new each day, awesome work guys!!! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Rodnator Dec 14 2007, 04:21 PM

What a tremendous addition to the best guitar learning, and community on the web. I expect there is a lot of word of mouth advertising going on. I personnally turn on all of friends, and they are just floored. Keep up the great work. I Love it.

Cool!

Well done Kris (and Henrik!)

Posted by: Jerry Arcidiacono Dec 14 2007, 04:32 PM

I like it biggrin.gif

Posted by: Crazyfret Dec 14 2007, 04:36 PM

Hey I like the look of this. Will help me to have some sort of order and structure to my practicing routine.

If all developments are as good as this I look forward to the next one.

Heyy Kris, Nice update smile.gif

One question. Is the choose another lesson thing meant to show you what lessons to practice next after you finish the one your on ?

thanks smile.gif

No it's meant as substitution lesson on the ~ same level.

In other words click "choose another lesson" if you aren't quite happy with one of the suggestions. smile.gif

Ok nice, the bookmark feature is going to make this all the more better smile.gif

On a different note. I notice alot of the lessons we have arent in there aswell , is there a reason for that ? Lessons such as Winding Roads, In the Style of Paul Gilbert and some other ones? Is that just a minor problem ?

Posted by: Davide Dec 14 2007, 05:24 PM

Thanks for this new feature very helpful biggrin.gif

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Dec 14 2007, 05:25 PM

Well spotted Eat Sleep and Jam - a lesson with very high difficulty level (9 for example) will not show up if there are other alternatives with lower level of difficulty (7 or 8 for example).

Our goal is to present a fourth "I'm god" category (after the advanced level of difficulty wink.gif biggrin.gif ), which will contain the most difficult lessons of GMC. We can't do it yet - because we don't have coverage in all music styles yet. (for example we don't have to many extremely difficult acoustic lessons yet)

The examples you mentioned are fantastic lessons - which will get a better place on the site once we have got a working algorithm to determine "most popular" lessons.

This site just keeps getting better and better with new updates that make learning stuff on this website even simpler ;-)..

Keep up the great work Kris and the rest of you rockers out there biggrin.gif

Posted by: Bogdan Dec 14 2007, 05:33 PM

This is just great idea with lesson planner !! Now its much easier for new GMCs to navigate to most suitable lessons , and for seniors also! wink.gif
For ideas for new features maybe some kind of members backend with stats about how much time was spent on different lessons (and maybe notes to write down bpm) ..To keep the progress...Progress bars and that sort of stuff keeps people very motivated.. wink.gif

Awesome job Kris and staff, keep up the good work guys.

Well done guys smile.gif

Can we not just call that category - "for those who think their name is Muris" laugh.gif laugh.gif

I really like this feature cool.gif , but I cant help but notice that there seems to be very little in the way of metal lessons above 6, not that I could do them anyway rolleyes.gif

That's because we have so many metal and shred lessons above 6 - the ones you aren't seeing simply aren't suitable for the category "advanced" - they should go into the fourth, even more advanced category. We could of course have a huge drop-down list..

Cool stuff

Truly a great idea! Thanks for making this great place(not site wink.gif ) even better!

I have some suggestions for the Lesson Planner for the "next versions".
I think it would be a good addition to have an option to separate Lessons and Excersises. And maybe the Excersises section to have several "slots" for lessons which will cover different techniques. Possibly with a field for the bpm you are currently playing it to(as Bogdan suggested). This way besides the lessons you learn you can have a easy way to see how good you are doing for an example with "Sweeps" and "Legato"(you see the Difficulty Level of the excersise and the bpm you are playing it to). So just by watching your Lesson Planner you can see what needs improvement, and what you should pay more attention to when it comes for today's excersises.

This way it would be easy to keep track of your level in a more complex way than only by the Difficulty Level of the lesson you are currently learning. This way you can play lessons with Difficulty 6 but the "Sweeps" slot lesson can say that you are practicing Sweep lessons of far lower difficulty. It's a way of saying "Hey you are forgetting something :]".

The "slots" should be choosable too. I mean if I don't want to learn Sweeping why should I keep track of progress in it :]

Well that's my suggestion. I still think if I should post this because GMC is getting far too good, and I've started going out far less than before because of that biggrin.gif But I guess devotion is the way to success :]

Thanks for existing :]
Hristian

Hi Kris! This new feature is amazing! Lovely!
Can't find the words to thank you for GMC (even though "thank you" expresses it well! laugh.gif )
I feel that one thing that would take it to an even higher level
would be to also have an "exercises" and "theory" option
along with the different genres...
Don't know whether you agree or not,
but being a beginner I would find it very useful!
Can't wait to create my personal practicing folder!
This place is just out of this world!!!!!
Cheers, Eddie

Awesome Addition Kris, GMC Is just getting so much more amazing everyday!!!!

Posted by: RobM Dec 14 2007, 09:17 PM

Great addition to the site, I did notice that if I chose a lesson plan say: Beginner- Rock and then started taking a lesson, during the lesson something happens or the video ends and I want to hit back on my browser. When I do I get the web page has expired error every time, I can never go back to the list of lessons I had created so I have to start olver again every time. Just something you might want to look into some time soon. Other than that so far it seems to be working pretty well.

This is a great idea. I already made my own lesson planer on metal and shred and can't wait to start practicing them. There are so much lessons I want to learn, but this helps to choose the lessons I can benefit the most to increase my playing skills biggrin.gif biggrin.gif so thanks a lot smile.gif

Posted by: Mackietao Dec 15 2007, 03:13 AM

oh man.. At beginner level 2 there is crazy speed in the shred apartment. If tapping that fast is considering to be a 2... I do not want to try the 10 tongue.gif Do you take in consideration the speed it´s played or just how hard it is even if you play it slower? Because you´ll need good stamina to for instance do that tapping lesson. And muris sweeps doesn´t feel that beginner speed on either =)

just thoughts smile.gif
