It´d like to know how fast Guthrie Govan can play (in the sense of scales/ beats per minute). There is a very fast part from about 01:55 in this vid:

Can anyone figure out how many notes he would play in a minute? I have a hard time figuring it out with my metronome...
Thank you very much!
The tempo of the song around 150, and in that part it seems that he is playing six notes per beat. (Sextuplets).
I think we can agree on the fact that he can play very fast. But I don't really think that the amount of notes that he (or anybody else) plays have any relevance: If speed os the only thing a player has to offer than this is not enough if you ask me. And Guthrie has SO MUCH more to offer, he is one of the best players around!
Guthrie Govan Picking Speed ?
FAST.
While he is fast, listen to any one of his songs and really listen to his technique and note choice. When I listen to Govan, his speed is probably my least favourite part of his playing, because he has so much more feeling and fluidity that other shredders just don't have.
The most important thing about his speed is that he never rushed it. He took his time when it came to playing fast. That is the only way to keep yourself sounding as natural as he does. Even at high speeds he doesn't sound mechanical like Batio or most of the other shredders out there -- and I believe that that is one of the most important mechanics of Govan's playing. It is definitely the reason I keep coming back to listen to him.
This is my favourite interview he has done to date. It really gives a lot of insight into his personality and approach to guitar.

I absolutely agree, he doesn't abuse his speed to only show off, like "look how fast I can play", which would be extremely boring. He is one of the most versatile players I know, with an awesome tone & technique.
He's great ,I can feel a lot of Vai in his playing...
