Hey guys, so I'm thinking of buying a new guitar, and I've narrowed it down to two choices: The Ibanez S series Prestige http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product...itar?sku=518112 or the JS2400 http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product...itar?sku=584125 I play shred and metal, but I also am playing jazz in school so I want it to be versatile. What do you guys recommend? Thanks.

I agree with Zakk, for you S5740 seems like a logical choice.

The body Wood make THE MAJOR diffrence in guitars! More than pickups or neckwoods or shape!
It's not that basswood is a lower quality or cheaper wood, it just sounds totally diffrent to mahagony... The JS and the S are on par quality wise, the JS is just too expensive for what it offers (paying for Mr. Satrianis name). There are a lot of other superstrats out there, you don't have to settle for one of those two. You could try a jackson or ESP and even an Ibanez RG or RGA! I've never played a Jackson though, the store I am buying from doesn't carry them. How do they compare? And I didn't know that about the wood, thanks. If mahogany gives a warmer sound what does basswood give? |

I don't think RGs fit for Jazz.. although you can actually use any guitar you want.. If that is the only choice, I would go for S Prestige.
I don't know how it fits, but this guitar might be of interest too.. some great shredders and jazzers use them. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product...itar?sku=515551 |
