> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Picking Hand Basics by Ben Higgins

So here's another attempt! By the way thanks a lot guys for your feedbacks on my last string bending video. Been working a lot on my string bending vibrato technique and it's already better. That means that another take will come soon...

Hey amigo!

Things are slowly getting better and better and it's clear that you are on the good path every time you work hard wink.gif Thing is, you are ahead of the beat and you need to align your playing with the drum track in order to have good timing and groove. For that, you need to deliberately play a bit behind the beat, as Ben suggested or practice with the original recording in order to naturally enhance your rhythmic sense for this piece.

Please keep us updated, Rhida!

Hey man, the triplet section in the middle is the best that I've heard from you yet. And that is often the bit that people struggle with the most.

You only tend to speed up during the triplets when you're about to change your fretting hand position so watch out for that.

For the rest of it, you're still painfully in front of the beat. As Cosmin suggested, playing along with my guitar might help. Firstly, try to be behind and you will hear my guitar in front of you. Then try to align it so your guitar and mine are not cutting in front or behind each other.

Another suggestion might be to put the backing track higher than you might think. This way, the percussion from the drum kit will really be in your face and give you more to align with. It's easy to get carried away and ignore the cymbals etc when your guitar is in the forefront.

Only do this during practise of course, not actual recording smile.gif

Hi again! You are a very hard worker. smile.gif

I checked this lesson and I can say that I don't notice an improvement regarding rhythm, even the previous take was a bit tighter. I don't know what's the reason, but on this new take you tended to play before of the beat most of the time, maybe you were hurry? tongue.gif But don't worry, just use our old trick of fooling your mind and playing the notes a bit after to go tighter with the rhythm. I can see you tapping with your foot while you play this but it seems that your picking and your foot weren't totally connected.

On the other hand, I can say that the sound of your alternate picking is better on this one, the notes sound more defined and the overall playing sounds more confident, I like the way you managed dynamics on this take. Notes sound fuller, and that's a good step forward.

So, please keep on practicing this lesson focusing on timing in order to master it. You are on the right track but you don't have to distract from playing the different figures tight.

Cheers!
