GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ A Bbking Collab For His Memory ?

Posted by: fzalfa May 15 2015, 07:20 AM

it's only an idea, but may we can do a collab around a BB king track tribute?

Laurent

Posted by: Monica Gheorghevici May 15 2015, 08:07 AM

I think it's a great idea Laurent. We can't use a BB King track from YT for a collab. But...definitely we can find in GMC a backing track in the style of BB King wink.gif

This is a sad day. I just saw right now the news.
R.I.P BB King sad.gif

Posted by: Rhida May 15 2015, 08:24 AM

Today, the blues have the blues as all blues fans in the world.
The man has done so much for electric blues guitar. His legacy will live forever.

A collab as a tribute is a very good idea.

Let's do it!

Posted by: fzalfa May 15 2015, 08:33 AM

ha, some people on the way...... yes

an idea about the tittle ?

Laurent

Posted by: Rhida May 15 2015, 08:48 AM

I think of something simple and straight to the point.

BB's blues
King of the blues
etc...

Posted by: Mertay May 15 2015, 09:40 AM

Good idea, also adding 2-3 famous songs on the collab. topic from him could be helpful to get some vibe and reflect of his style.

Posted by: Monica Gheorghevici May 15 2015, 10:26 AM

We had with some time ago a collab named "Gary Moore tribute collaboration." I think because it will be a tribute collab, maybe keeping a similar name " BB King tribute collaboration" it will be more suitable. Also I like Rhida's ideas for the name. Let's see what other guys think about this collab wink.gif

Another idea it will be to build together an entire backing similar with "The thrill is gone". It would be easy for everybody to play over it. Also Kris voice can be a damn great add for this kind of collab.

Posted by: fzalfa May 15 2015, 10:46 AM

i agree monica !

let choose a piece of BB king !!!

we can find a lot of BT on YT.... or do it ourself.

the subject is launched

Laurent

Posted by: Monica Gheorghevici May 15 2015, 11:33 AM

I guess the best thing is to choose a backing from GMC or build together one. We don't use in GMC backing tracks from YT to avoid copyright problems. Even if are free on YT can appear problems if the author has another site where the backing tracks can be downloadable with money. It's much better for GMC to stay on the safe side wink.gif

Posted by: fzalfa May 15 2015, 11:45 AM

some free BT are available on some website specialized on backtracks

let's choose one from theses or else where if you have an idea

http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/bts/BB_King.htm

between on YT some bt are available with CC copyright, we can use it wihtout troubles

Laurent

Posted by: Rhida May 15 2015, 12:36 PM

And what about these titles?

Tears of Lucille
Lucille's blues
King is gone

Posted by: fzalfa May 15 2015, 12:54 PM

we must search.

let's choose one , for everyone's skill, and everyone pleasure !

it's not a contest , but a way to say "thankx BB" for all this music !

Laurent

Posted by: Gitarrero May 15 2015, 03:16 PM

I think that's a great idea.
We've got a bunch of bluesy GMC instructors, maybe they will even write a backing and make it an official collab?

Christian

Posted by: MisterM May 15 2015, 03:50 PM

Good idea Laurent. wink.gif

Posted by: fzalfa May 15 2015, 03:54 PM

May we can do without our instructor....
But keep un mind everyone can participate but cause of a track lenght we are limited in matter of time
Or we do a largeur project with a medley

Laurent

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl May 15 2015, 07:57 PM

Very sad day!! sad.gif sad.gif BB had an aura of positive energy around him... And wether we like it or not we are all VERY influenced by him, playing wise.

You can count me in, for such a collab!

Why don't you guys agree on a cool backing track (we have got so many great blues backing tracks, just check Stephane lucarelli, Ivan Milekonvic, Sinisa etc) and then open a thread where we can upload our takes?

Posted by: fzalfa May 15 2015, 08:20 PM

yes kris

but , playin on only a bluesy bt or onto a BB's one ?

the interest is to do a tribute, not another blues cool piece

we can use this one per example, cause it's free to use

Laurent

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl May 15 2015, 09:51 PM

I'll leave the details up to you since this would be a member initiated collab. About copyrights: just be sure to use a public domain backing track. For user generated content the worse thing that can happen is that we get a complaint and have to remove the backing track from your thread (and it is very rare for us to get such complaints).

My 2 cents about the backing: I am no BB expert but to me he relied on what we today call standard blues progressions. So for example if you find a neat GMC slow blues backing, all we need to do is throw in some BB licks and we should be home.

Posted by: fzalfa May 15 2015, 10:53 PM

yes you are right about progression scale.....

should you use an "internal" BT ?

Laurent

Posted by: Daeron May 16 2015, 07:53 AM

Nice idea, Laurent. I'll follow the thread and maybe participate if I'm able to do something.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi May 16 2015, 04:50 PM

This is a great idea! I'm in!

Here are some cool backings that can keep this collab on the safe side to avoid copyright issues.

I vote the second one - the slow blues phrasing.

It has a much happier sound - I think it would be nice to say our good byes over it.

Posted by: fzalfa May 17 2015, 06:41 PM

ok

i'll start tonight with the second one !!

it's okay for you ?

Laurent

Posted by: fzalfa May 17 2015, 10:42 PM

after reflection, we mus t do a tribute based on a collab, so i propose to use a free BT of the thrills is gone....

this is the BT:

https://soundcloud.com/dizy-laurent/thrill-is-gone-backing-track

the chord progression is:

||:Bm7 | Bm7 | Bm7 | Bm7 | Em7 | Em7 | Bm7 | Bm7 | Gmaj7 | F#7 | Bm7 | Bm7 :||

actualy no, cause all my Unix boxes are only big iron, i mean very big Silicon Graphics stuff, like Cray/SGI origin 2000, multirack Onyx 3, Iris 4D crimson (like the one ini jurassic park), Octane / fuel / indy / indigo 2 workstation.

so i use a moderne multi xeon system, for the noise, for the electrical comsuption, and the availability of musical software, cause SGI are 100% proprietary system, in house Unix (called IRIX) In house CPU (MIPS risc 64bits),and in house graphics cards.

but i can use it for audio / and video mixing, cause software used on are still good, editors like Avid, Autodesk flame etc....

All Linux audio software can be ported on cause Irix is Posix compliant, and all SGI have high quality audio subsystem with low latency, high sampling rates, spdif and optical input/output.

Those are some very nice bits of kit wink.gif The power requirements are pretty serious? Did you notice your electric bill go up a bit after install? smile.gif

That onys is real monster! Back in the day that would around half a million US or so? That's similar to the "JEDI SPEC" that was used for years at Industrial Light and Magic under the "JEDI PACT" that SGI had going with them.

When I was working on one, it was the only machine on earth that could calculate color space in logarithmic scale smile.gif

P.S. What in God's name are you using these machines for?

I used my new RICK HANES GUITARS prototype "CRUSHER" and a new TH2 preset (low gain/bluesish) and pulled a KRIS DAHL and did the solo one one take, one pass, all improv. There are little bits in there that I'd normally re track but I'm going to leave them in as it makes it sound much more organic and less sterile and planned. But let's see what you guys think smile.gif

Hello Todd

Yes, you are using the right backing track but you should play after the others ! Each one play one or two licks, then another one, then another one... I think your turn is after my take.

The mix is there for now :

https://soundcloud.com/dizy-laurent/thrill-is-gone-backing-track-1

So you should start your licks at ~ 2'20

I got a reply and I get it now. smile.gif Just drop my guitar track in and turn up the volume on that track whenever you like. That way you can plug any gaps/wholes or just put it right after the last guy and let it run as long as you like. I soloed over the entire track so that you could pick whatever you wanted out of it smile.gif

Whew! Was confused for a bit smile.gif

Thanks for the info smile.gif I soloed over the entire track so he could just fade up my track whenever he wants. After the current one would work fine wink.gif

Laurent,

This evening I've worked on a few licks to continue the jam. I need one or two days more in order to take those ideas and make something with it.

Posted by: Daeron Jun 18 2015, 10:12 PM

Maybe a little bit slow and repetitive... I have worked yesterday evening and this evening on this. It starts at 2:42 and ends at 3:55.

Let me know what you think... maybe I should work more to make it more smooth. Now, I have to work on my lessons ! wink.gif
If this is ok, I'll send you the only guitar track.

Hey Laurent, we are close to the end. What about the idea of beginning and ending the collab ? I think it could be nice, if you are inspired...

Great job guys, and excellent job at mixing this. Let's wait and see who wants to close this up. Can't wait for final song.

Posted by: Daeron Jun 22 2015, 10:16 PM

Hi Laurent,

I just listened to the last mix and it seems that there's a problem with the second part that I recorded. It seems odd : not synchronised with the beat and stretched... is it possible ? Listen to this : https://soundcloud.com/david-enrique-20/bbking-collab-2
Here, there's no problem.

Posted by: fzalfa Jun 22 2015, 10:23 PM

I think I like the first one the best.
