GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Setting Up My Reaper

Posted by: Hajduk Jun 5 2014, 09:51 PM

OK so I have been wanting to do a collab for a long time and Iron maiden is one of my all time fave bands, so hear are my questions! I know that this has been explained to me before by Cosmin and Todd. These are the parts I get! Download the backing track and open it in your recording software( I know how to do that) I have the free version of reaper.
2. Record your part in the recording software and with your video cam (if you have the possibility to record video). This part I get because I record YouTube videos.
The hard part for me is how do I record my part in the DAW?? I am assuming that I just use me Zoom Pedal that hooks up to my laptop?? I as well know there are settings in reaper that I can render the track a certain way that is required. Once again sorry for the dumb questions but I really feel I should know how to do this. Thank you all for your patience smile.gif smile.gif

What kind of Zoom pedal is it? Does it have USB out and install drivers to the computer? I ask because usually you need something to act as an interface.

From there you need to go into preferences and set it up under Audio / Device. You would tell it the audio system you're using such as ASIO, ASIO4ALL, ect. And setup the reset in there.

Like for me. I run my guitar into a Kemper, the Kemper connects to the interface using an XLR cable, then the interface to computer. Under the Audio / Device section I have it set to do the inputs set to my interface driver.

Its the G2.1Nu. It does have a USB out and I always plug into my laptop when doing Rec takes so the backing tack will run through the amp and as far as I know there are drivers installed. Thanks Spase smile.gif

well, if you could run "monitor out" ,and use headphones or even ear buds for now(not ideal) , your guitar amp misses a lot of frequencies when trying to mix, that being said , if thats what you have , that's what you have.

it sounds like your almost there, you should arm the record button on your guitar Chanel and then push the main record button , and it should start playing the backing at the the same time your guitar starts recording

did this help ?

Nice one CRSN! The "arm track" and "record Monitor" buttons are the two things that really snag most folks the first time through on reaper. There are some great youtube vids that will walk you through all the steps to get going as well.

As was mentioned, you should use heaphones when recording smile.gif
