GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Just Got Pandora Px5d

Posted by: Nighthawk1 Aug 11 2009, 09:54 AM

Hi there GMC,
from today I'm a proud owner of Pandora PX5D. Just checked it out and it's really a magic box. Some weird effects in there reminding me of some Vai tracks. Previously I owned Toneport UX2 with GearBox and I was really content with it but I wanted to use a Multieffect for my amp and wanted to be independent from my PC. As a travel a lot from my study place home and so on the toneport was also pretty big to carry it around in your case and so on. So I think the PX5D was the better choice and that's why I sell my toneport on ebay and bought the Pandora. If the someone is interested in bidding the link is http://cgi.ebay.de/Line-6-Toneport-UX2_W0QQitemZ160354119415QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAllgemeines_Musikinstrumente_Zubeh%C3%B6r?hash=item2555d9aef7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

But now my question. I haven't found the right tone on the Pandora yet. I think I have to create my own which I like best. But I have no clue about the amps and cabinets to use maybe someone can help. I always used the "Ain't talking about love" tone from Gearbox which was really nice. It sounds pretty much like Muris standard distortion sound. Gearbox uses here 1993 Solo 100 Head Amp and a 4x12 1996 Brit Celest V-30s. Some Medium Hall Reverb and so on.
So can someone help how I can set the Pandora to approximate that sound? huh.gif

What I did with my PX4D is that I was mixing guitar amps with bass cabs,
the only way to have it sounding right for me.
So try using larger cabs, 1x15 or something like that.
Then tweak EQs a little and that's pretty much it.
Ofc course you can add effects as you please,
I was using ping pong delay all the time tho. smile.gif

Thanks Muris. Where are your presets from your lessons gone? Cannot find them anymore?

I wish every lesson had settings and equipment listed as yours do. I find this EXTREMELY helpful! I know that every guitar and every player will sound different with same settings...but it certainly helps to get you in the correct neighborhood for your own guitar and style.

Also, you might of course want to tweak those settings a bit to make them fit your guitar as opposed to Muris' wink.gif

One thing I always do, when creating my own presets, is to put everything to zero and build it up from there: choose amp modeling, etc.

Thanks for your thoughts so far guys

Does any owner of the PX5D know if the power adapter is recharging the akkus when you plug into the Pandora (preconditioned you use rechargeable batteries). Or do I have to use an external recharging device?
