Hi All,

I'm a newbie here and discovered the site accidentally when I was Googling for sweeping lessons.
I'm one of those On & Off guitarists...sometimes I practice sometimes I dont which really got me nowhere.
Now, I want to make a change and improve my playing skills...I would rate myself as an Intermediate player influenced mostly by the music
of GNR, Metallica, Collective Soul and a mix of 80's to 90's music.

I think this site rocks and what sold me was really Krostofer Dahl's Curious Coincidence...

Anyway, can anyone give me any practice routine recommendations & songs I can start to learn which would help me improve my playing skills?

Thanks a lot!

hi man! Welcome to the site! I think that Adrian's question is very important. The first thing would be to set some goals and then developee a routine to go for them.

Hi and welcome to the site cool.gif

Well I guess there's some basic areas that should always be covered in guitar playing - picking, bending & vibrato definitely.

For bending I recommend stuff like this https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Gary-Moore-Style-Ballad/

For vibrato I've got a few https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Vibrato-Odyssey/

For picking, it depends where you are with it.. I made some recently that concentrate on absolute basics

For more advanced picking patterns, Gabriel's got some great lessons.. also check out Zsolt Galambos.

In terms of learning songs, I think that's a great way to develop a confident degree of hand synchronisation and picking ability, especially Metallica songs.

In terms of practice routine you could approach it a couple of ways: Split up your practice time to cover each technique or exercise/lesson every day. For example you could devote 10 mins to each aspect and cover them all.

Or you can do it on more of a shift basis, like I do. I'll spend a couple of days focusing on certain aspects then i'll spend the next couple of days working on the other aspects.

Either way, balance is key to keep your interest high. Always make sure that you're playing more of what you enjoy smile.gif

Welcome to GMC!

You should definitely learn the solo for One by Metallica (If you haven't already). Zsolt has an excellent lesson here in GMC.
