Hi and welcome to the site
 Well I guess there's some basic areas that should always be covered in guitar playing - picking, bending & vibrato definitely. I made some recently that concentrate on absolute basics https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Picking-Hand-Basics/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Stamina-School/ For more advanced picking patterns, Gabriel's got some great lessons.. also check out Zsolt Galambos. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/instructo...briel-Leopardi/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/instructor/Zsolt-Galambos/ In terms of learning songs, I think that's a great way to develop a confident degree of hand synchronisation and picking ability, especially Metallica songs. In terms of practice routine you could approach it a couple of ways: Split up your practice time to cover each technique or exercise/lesson every day. For example you could devote 10 mins to each aspect and cover them all. Or you can do it on more of a shift basis, like I do. I'll spend a couple of days focusing on certain aspects then i'll spend the next couple of days working on the other aspects. Either way, balance is key to keep your interest high. Always make sure that you're playing more of what you enjoy
