GMC Forum _ Competitions _ New Competition : Winter Blues
Posted by: Andrew Cockburn Mar 9 2008, 07:34 PM
Caught up in the winter blues, Andrew, Smells, TheUncreator, MickeM and Tonymirro have all decided that they want to give up guitar - it's no fun to them any more and they can't seem to make any progress.
The goal of the competition is to come up with the best reason, story or other inspirational text in around a paragraph or two to convince them that guitar is awesome and they should really have faith and keep going!
Please post your entries ----> http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=12967<---
Since we only have one category this time around, we have some awesome prizes!
First Prize is:
A Korg Pandora PX4D
Second prize is
A Shredneck
Third prize is:
An album of your choice from one our very own GMC Instructors
The cutoff date for entries is thge 23rd of March, and this one will be judged by the affected members - Andrew, Smells, TheUncreator, MickeM and Tonymirro. If we decide to give up, noone gets any prizes, but if we decide to keep playing, we will pick the winners
Looking forward to seeing your entries, and make them good, I don't want to have to give up guitar!
Note : Prizes are non-negotiable, no cash alternative is available.

QUOTE
The guitar is a gentle piece of equipment, used by people who can treat it with fealing.
If you an play like our senior GMC members, then you can say you have this feeling.
People like them shouldn't ever try to stop play guitar. They have the feeling.
When playing, you can feel the music go through your body, as every guitarist can tell.
You get caught bye the melodie. Your leg starts moving on the rhythm, and maybe your head aswell.
Now tell me, who wants to miss that feeling?
Everybody loves to play, but sometimes things don't go so well.
You think your progress is low, and you don't see the fun in playing anymore.
If you see yourself in the above description, then read the following.
It's easy to get rid of the guitar as soon as it get's a bit harder to make progress,
but with just a bit of selfdiscipline, you can stay playing guitar.
-Just make a schedule of playing for ten minutes a day, just pick nice songs to play.
You can do larger sessions if you feel well with the ten minutes and if you can't stop playing after ten minutes.
After a while you'll find out that you just start playing and no way, your not gonna stop when the time is over!
-Take a piece of paper and wright down all the songs you can play or have played. When this
list is longer then one side of an A4, then stop when you have reached the bottom of the page.
next, write down all GMC lessons you've mastered or learned half.
Next, write down all the theory knowledge you have.
You'll find out you know a lot! then you'll see that you've done great in the years,
and you're a great player. You can still make progress, if you keep playing like that!
I hope this helped you, and just get the guitar on your knee, while being on the pc. In this way you'll start playing without even noticing!
Also, just make a smile when you read this, it'll help.
cheers Kaz
Sorry for the language mistakes

So are we aloud to make a sort of fictional 'story' as to why they should continue playing guitar?
Posted by: FretDancer69 Mar 9 2008, 08:01 PM

If you think it`ll get us back on track, only something in a paragraph or two though or else it might just have the opposite effect and depress us further?

Brilliant idea,just brilliant!!

posted my entry...what do you think?
Posted by: Andrew Cockburn Mar 9 2008, 08:42 PM
any kind of entry is allowed - finctional, factual, whatever - just make it a couple of paragraphs, and make sure you post it in the other thread, not this thread - Kyle has got the idea, check out his entry!
Edit : Though I have to say, only one entry so far, I am really considering giving up now - its just no fun anymore.

Yes, we all are stuck in a rut, We just are looking towards giving up......
....But can you convince us otherwise?
Posted by: Tjchep Mar 9 2008, 09:48 PM
Yeah, really..
We could write a few words to keep you playing guitar and get a prize or something..
OR
We could let you quit and get new guitars.. Hmm..?
Hah, just kidding .
Posted by: superize Mar 9 2008, 09:51 PM
I wrote a little something that might help you continue to play guitar
Posted by: Andrew Cockburn Mar 10 2008, 01:00 PM
I think perhaps you're right Tony - the more chords you learn, the more there seem to be out there, its really daunting ...
Posted by: Smells Mar 10 2008, 03:04 PM
*sigh* so much to learn, so little time! I`m thinking maybe the triangle will be easier?

OK I entered with a little different approach then the others so far... hope it works, you lazy slackers...
Posted by: MickeM Mar 10 2008, 10:33 PM
The prices suck, since I hate guitar so much what would I want with them if I won? Not that I'm competing or anything, not possible really since I made a bon fire out of all my gear. I will post pictures of that later, burnt my eyebrows and hair off in the process. Gasoline catch on pretty fast in case you wonder. And I don't know how I manage to stay so positive after all of this, I guess that's just who I am.
Add a wig with bushy eyebrows and I'm in, I need that.
Posted by: Andrew Cockburn Mar 11 2008, 01:02 PM
Burning all our gear .... yes, I like that, it really finalizes the whole thing. I wonder if you can light a Jem with a match, or would you need lighter fluid?
Posted by: kaznie_NL Mar 11 2008, 01:22 PM
Tuubsu, yours is cool!!

Ok... Here is my entry:
Although many of us here at GMC come from different regions around the globe: Sweden, USA, Honduras, Argentina...etc, we all gather around the one thing that is universally appreciated: guitar. Even though we all speak different languages, we can all appreciate the sound of a guitar. In a way, giving up guitar is like forgetting a language. However, this language is universally understood. Not only that, but it can convey much more emotion than language alone. Guitars can make us cry, dance, laugh, smile, yell and more. Giving up the guitar is giving up the ability to convey the purest emotions; when you give it up, life becomes a little grayer: why? Because you are no longer able to convey your emotions as well. Going through a rough patch as a guitarist is natural: without them, we would never have that feeling of joy when we play an amazingly awesome lick, that feeling of happiness when we seem to soar into the air with the guitar. If you give up now, there will never any more of those priceless moments. Perseverance, however, will lead you to your dream level of playing. I think it's a pretty obvious choice.
