check him out. he's like 17 years old, and a pretty freaking amazing guitarist for his age. very steve vai influenced. probably my favorite young unknown guitarist on youtube. he has that JEM that seems very popular here at GMC laugh.gif

Posted by: The Uncreator Jul 14 2007, 02:33 PM

Well he has been playing since age 7, so he;s already got 1o years under his belt! smile.gif

Posted by: Hemlok Jul 14 2007, 02:39 PM

Ooh yes I have heard him play cannon rock or whatever it is... Gosh I don't understand how everyone loves that so much. I dont know who the original is by but I have only heard bogus covers of it and I believe it has been destroyed, or maybe it was never too special.

But back to 'Mattrach' yes he seems to be pretty good. smile.gif thanks for sharing Asphyxia Feeling

- Hemlok

With the help of GMC, I expect my belt will be very sparkly in 10 years time biggrin.gif

I am for certain never giving up guitar. Not until I die or lose both my hands and feet.

Probably the best is this guy

He's done a number of satriani and vai covers, perfect tone

I agree about the Canon Rock! Can't stand that song at all! I really don't know what's so special about it!

Mattrach played Tender Surrender by Vai and he screwed up the most interesting part of it because you have to pretty much be Vai to be able to play it!! Also it seems like he never went to school or something - like he is playing the guitar the whole and he has lots of signature guitars...i really wonder where did he get money for those guitars!

About his skills - really guys it's nothing impressive! With GMC you'll get much further than that because you have constructed lessons, instructors give you best possible advises and we eliminate the "doubt" about all things so you will play way better than him! You just have to be dedicated to practicing!

I htink all he gots on me right now. Is the sweeps, and harmonics. Oh yeah, and his guitars!!

Gustavo Guerra is probably the number 1 "Youtube" guitarist, He writes excellent original stuff and his covers do all the songs justice.

Thanks, Pavel that was an encouraging post smile.gif

BTW, I have the same with Canon Rock, the first time I saw it I was like:...ok cool smile.gif
Then I saw how much attention it gets and I was like : Dude... :S
And then my brother heard it and now he keeps pushing me too learn that song.
And I don't want too learn it XD (well not yet, maybe after 20 other songs)

So I'm starting to hate it pretty badly O_o

And yeah Gustavo Guerra is my favourite biggrin.gif

Who knows biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Gustavo is great! BUT his compositions are a bit boring to me - no actual development of the musical sentence there! It's just basically all day long same backing track and he just improvises over it! But covers he did are really high quality!

Also - Mattrach is copying Steve Vai WAY TOO MUCH! In his playing you can hear a great deal of licks literally stolen from Vai and i bet he spent some time learning to make faces like Vai! biggrin.gif

You'll play better - keep that in mind and get your guitar! smile.gif

I was going to make a Mattrach guitar topic. I liked his take on Canon, he put his own twist on it. The New canon rock is what im talking about. But on another note I do think hes a good guitarist, just not well rounded and he did screw up big time on a part in tender surrender, Idk if someone already said that . But the bottom line is, No one is going to sound close to Steve Vai ,ever. Why would I make such a bold statement? huh.gif Because the only person who can play exactly like Steve Vai, is well Steve Vai tongue.gif biggrin.gif .

Mattrach does have some talent, but I think my favorite guitarist on youtube would have to be Troy Grady. Ik hes not mainly featured on youtube but I respect what he does. He isnt just trying to play every Steve Vai or Joe Satriani song out there ,but he is trying to find of the real secrets of shred guitar. I think 90% of youtube guitarists out there are nothing more then Robots. Learning others Riffs and licks and trying to be exactly like there idol. But what we dont relize is we may want to play exactly "like" steve vai or what not, but what we really want is to one day have a style of are own and inspire others to want to learn ARE OWN STYLE.

Does that make sense ? And also I have a lot of respect of Cguerra, Wish he spoke english in his lessons though tongue.gif

Edit : Wow I should have read the posts above, Pavels right I agree with Pavel.

Nice "For the love of God" cover , I enjoyed it v much biggrin.gif

Posted by: Asphyxia Feeling Jul 16 2007, 01:50 PM

ha, i see MattRach is a semi-controversial topic.

I'd like to add (this is an honest opinion, it's not brown-nosing or anything)

i kinda forgot you, pavel, are pretty young too. (i'm 17, FYI. i just use "young" because as a good guitarist that's a pretty young age, especially compared to my skills :S) really. just because all your stuff is wayyy good. i've never heard any of your personal songs (aside from some recordings from your band (or old band?) a while ago on some website)... but from lessons etc i (and everyone else) sees that you have a pretty good grasp on mostly everything about guitar theory / technique / knack for melody and if you posted videos of yourself doing songs i'm sure you'd gain / suppass mattrach's popularity. (you'd probably have to do 2 or 3 Canon Rock covers though, just for good measure / search hits, hehehe)

Posted by: ezravdb Jul 16 2007, 02:09 PM

Did you guys see Mattrach's Tango En Skai cover?
fricking sick fingerstyle playing man :|

Posted by: mattacuk Jul 17 2007, 11:02 AM

I like his work, its fun ! smile.gif Its always worth remembering not everyones into super fast shred techniques. Me I like a mix of everything, but i know alot of people just like to here something catchy or just fun! Which is why Cannon Rock is so popular! Im the sorta person who would throw something silly like the starwars theme tune in between a some killer solos! laugh.gif

Man, hes been playing for almost 10 years now. If he hasnt found his own style yet. Then theres a problem!!
I think hes a robot, and it seems like it wont change anytime soon!!

He has great skills, and much better than me, but i listened to a few of his songs. And I didnt hear MattRach, I heard Vai (Not exactly of course)!!

Unless he changes. I dont think hes going to far with guitar (haha it ryhmed). We got one Vai. Trust me. With some of his crazy songs for instance Ya Yo Gakk. Im pretty sure we dont need another guy just like it playing Ba Ga Tee!!

Posted by: Eat-Sleep-andJam Jul 18 2007, 02:55 AM

Well you just said what I was trying to say , In 3 paragraphs. By him not finding his own style and being classified as a robot , isnt that saying the same thing I said ?

When I said Mattrach has not found his own style yet I basically meant he is ( for use of a better word ) a copycat, yes a copycat. A copy cot absorbs what he or she hears and well copies it. Rather then absorbing what he or she hears and making it their own ( the proper war ). Mattrach is a very good guitar player, but ive yet to see something thats REALLY him.

The robot thing yeah sure i guess. Thats just what i would say. Instead of "He just hasnt found his own style yet". Not being mean or nothing. He has skills, but when he comes out with something that is him. Im sure listen in and give him 2 thumbs up biggrin.gif

Posted by: Eat-Sleep-andJam Jul 18 2007, 03:09 AM

Yeah well he has come out with stuff on his youtube channel that arent cover songs but they sound very Vai-ish.
Not that thats a bad thing! I could see if he had like 2 or three vids that were very vai influenced , but its more like every video, Come on now laugh.gif .

I dont know about his jazz song "Front Page" if its influenced by many or not. I dont listen to them, but he really looks at home with Jazz.

Thats a great video. I like watching the rhythmic feel of his right hand technique. He has good tone for a "shredder". He definitely has a nice sound on this take and I cant hear too many obvious influences.

I am currently checking a lot of MattRach and I must say I really like his own songs.

Here are two of them :

They are good. smile.gif
