Let's continue our work from Quick Licks 45. Using the same backing track. ("Suspended Growth" by Hamin), we are going to add another lick to what e did last time. These two licks work together. You can play them in any order and at any speed and they will still work. If you are not comfortable playing with music, you can use a metronome. Either way is ok for Quick Licks!

*Have a look at the video

*This is based on my recent collab with Iranian Djent fiend HAMIN. Here is the full solo. We are working on the middle bit today. Keep a good palm mute the entire time!

*NOTE: Keep it smooth and under control. If you find you are losing control, slow down just a pinch.

BACKGROUND / COMMENTS : Try this lick with the backing! Keep it clean. Repeat as needed Also, make SURE to play the picking pattern as written. It's a pattern that we are going to use quite a bit on a variety of licks.

Hit me up with any questions!
Todd

Well played! This is a really technical lick and I"m very impressed with how easy to handled it!! The quick hammer/pull is a bit tricky and then paired with yet another huge stretch which you have to stick the landing with the pinky. You nailed both parts! Very nice. Also you played it without breaking a sweat or making a guitar face grimmace. I had to make serious guitar face to play this properly. smile.gif I had to cut my face out of the shot when I did the video for this solo for the song it goes with. Not you! You krushed it and ..

NICE!!! This one has a KILLER pinky stretch in it that requires you to stick the landing. If you miss the landing with the pinky, the entire lick falls apart. It's got no gaps so there is no time to switch hand positions without it sounding forced. No worries for you, just shank that pinky out there like a pro and stick the landing and even nail the final note vibrato with grace and style. I hope everyone watches this one.

BINGO!! This one is yet another lick that is all about that double strike on two strings. There are a world of licks that are based on this picking pattern. We have played several of these licks here in Quick Licks and also in BOOTCAMP. It looks like you are getting a good handle on this picking technique. It's great to see. Keep at this. It will keep coming up again and again. Try to focus on just the first position. Loop it and slowly push the speed up on the metronome. Once you have it moving, add the rest of the lick back in and your left hand will adapt to your picking hand. If you want to put up round two, feel free! This one is enough for me smile.gif

Thanks buddy, so if you want round two, what should I focus on? Which is the worst element?

Cheers
Phil

I'd say the palm mute. Listen to mine again and notice how there is a slight separation between each note as I'm using a very stuf mute. It creates a nice separation between each note and gives it a very mechanical/shreddy feel. It's the most difficult aspect of playing a lick like this as it really requires the back part of your picking hand to stay as flat/muted as possible, while the front part of your hand does the picking.

Super Nice! This one requires good hand synch and a very big pinky stretch. It's a complicated lick. The pinky has to stretch way out and stick the landing. You do a great job of nailing it with the pinky! Also, you have very good hand synch here and a solid mute. You are putting all of the bits together!

You just..

LEVELED UP!!
