I am the bionic man.

Part of my treatment is electrostimulation as in the video along with contrast therapy and exercises all at home, and then acupuncture and manipulation at the Physiotherapist. I may have to go for a nerve conduction velocity test too if the first course of treatment isn't working enough.

The video does play if you click it even though at the moment it is showing as though it isn't processed.

After working with kanye West on his latest release, Todd Rundgren had some choice words about working on KANYE WEST's latest offering. Evidently, kanye shipped in most of the hip hop artists on planet earth just to have each one bark a single syllable so that, as singles get released, he can select which artist he wants to mention, based on how much traction a given contributor is enjoying at that moment. It's a clever marketing trick to some degree, but evidently the results were less than stellar. I got a good laugh seeing him with a stocking over his head as he worked through tunes to a stadium test audience. If you have enough money, anything is possible.

More on Rundgren's involvement here.

Me too!! smile.gif It's a bit of a hobby. I thought this vid was great. The further they go back, the more they find out they were entirely wrong about our early origins. smile.gif It now appears that there was quite a bit of, shall we say, intermingling of various genetic groups.

Very cool patch!! Thanks for sharing in the THU patch vault!!

QUOTE (Phil66 @ Sep 15 2021, 04:11 AM) *
Thanks Kris, glad you like it. The second Soundcloud is guitar only and download enabled, I didn't record with any reverb or delay anyway.

UPDATE: Ooops I forgot to mute the backing when rendering the guitar only. I'll sort it. Sorry rolleyes.gif

Please excuse the dodgy vibrato, I have a neck /shoulder injury that makes it difficult at the moment rolleyes.gif

If that's no use to you I can put the file here later on wink.gif

Cheers

Thanks Todd, yes it is a TH-U patch but I accidentally rolled the tone all the way down on my guitar before I started looking for a patch, it's my PRS SE Custom 24 and the tone is also the coil tap knob and for some reason they always turn real easy.

I'll share the patch if you think it's worthy.

Cheers

Thats great news about getting an appointment!!! Too bad thumbless is no help. Just trying to think of things that might reduce pressure. As always, don't worry about the speed. it's more about the precision on this one. There are some "shreddy" bits coming later.

QUOTE (Phil66 @ Sep 15 2021, 03:51 PM) *
Hello Sarge,

Some good news for a change, a client has cancelled their appointment with the physiotherapist tomorrow evening so they called and offered me the slot, one week early smile.gif

Thumbless is actually harder, I have less control not gripping onto the neck rolleyes.gif

Currently up to 90bpm with 1/4 notes on mission 36, struggling with palm mute on the thinner strings due to the position I have to hold the guitar for my left hand, I am managing to control extraneous noise though.

Cheers

Well said!! That's the same sort of problem I mentioned with TYR. They had a nearly 6 year gap between releases. during which time, their audience sort of moved on. Now they are trying to claw it back. I know it takes time, but that's just too much time. .

This is james iso track for BLACKENED. It's a great idea to listen to your own isolated guitar tracks. Sometimes we are playing out of time and don't even know it. Turn on the metronome/click in your daw, and listen to your guitar track. See if you are drifting a bit. Also, check out how clean his strikes are. This guy is a monster of Metal riffage smile.gif

This is NOT guitar related but I thought it was very interesting. it's a presentation at Harvard University. They discovered that light pigmentation in humans is a fairly recent development and that we evidently "mixed" with Neandrathals more than we thought. it was this blending that gave us some of our most useful traits. It was thought for a long time that this mixing never took place.

Anyone else interested in archeology and history?

As you may have heard, “The album is Dead”. The SINGLE is now sorta the way to go. Folks don’t consume music like they did in the old days by and large. Sure, I still listen to records, and many of you probably do as well. Sadly, kids today mostly do a lot of swiping right/up/etc. When checking out new music. So you are better off putting out your best song as a single and skipping the rest of it.

1.)YOUR EGO IS WRITING CHECKS YOUR MUSIC CAN”T CASH

Not any of us, of course, but many musicians are long on EGO and short on TALENT. The world is just not gonna care. Folks are not buying full albums/units anymore. If you do record a full length, please don’t make boxes of physical copies. These are just going to fill up your storage spaces. You can create and release digitally quite easily.

2.)NOBODY KNOWS WHO YOU ARE
This is a really big problem. Because nobody knows who you are, nobody is going to care about your music, much less an entire albums worth. Yet another reason to focus on a single track. Your best track is your best bet. Even if your song is great and quality is amazing, you still have to get past the first 10 seconds of a listener who is likely to just skip it.

3.)YOUR BAND IS NOTHING NEW

We don’t need another MESHUGGAH or PERIPHERY (Who are another MESHUGGAH by their own admission). In fact, many music reviewers won’t listen to anything that does the muted triplet thing, make popular on the BLEED track. We do tend to sound like our influences. This is only natural. You have to ask, if you would buy your own record if you had the chance? If the answer is no, yet another reason to put out a single.

4.)YOUR BAND MIGHT NOT SURVIVE THE PROCESS
Many bands can’t make it through the process of recording an album. This happens all the time. The band realize that they can’t stand each other, etc., and the band breaks up just after the mastering process is complete. Save yourself the trouble. Don’t put your bandmates through the process.

5.)YOUR MUSIC MIGHT NOT BE WORTH LISTENING TO

Are you wanting to make an album just because it’s time to make the next one? Not a great creative inspiration. Your music has to compete with sooooo much stuff. Is the material more compelling than scrolling tik tok vids? If not, maybe it needs some work.

6.)GET TO THE POINT

If your band has 12 songs, pick the best one. Then record and release that one. Promote it and share it on social media and get some feedback from anyone that will listen. Then pick the next one and change it according to what you have learned. Releasing singles is just more practical these days compared to a full length. You can always release another single if the first one gets any kind of response.

7.)STEP OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE
Avoid using the usual approaches and try something new. Maybe record live with several players. This is something that isn’t done very much these days. It can give music a vibe of being actual music, instead of being the typical plugin fest. Allow imperfections to creep in. They can give the song character and help it stand out.

8.)GO TO NAMM
NAMM is still a thing. Even though COVID almost killed it, like everything else. There are great seminars and just about every brand known to man who you may be able to develop a relationship with.

9.)DO A 3 SONG DEMO
You’ve put out a single and people like it! Then it’s time to do something longer. Maybe a 3 track EP/Demo. Attention spans have never been shorter so keeping it brief can be a good thing.

10.)DONE IS BETTER THAN PERFECT
Getting a song actually recorded is a wonderful thing. Perfection can be the enemy of the good. In the video, there is an example of band letting a recorded album sit and wait while issues with the graphics inserts were sorted. This took about 2 years. Instead of releasing it as is, they waited. By the time they put it out, the demand was gone.

11.)WILL ANYONE REMEMBER?

Ask yourself, if you would want to listen to your single 10 years from now. Is it good? Is it memorable? Is it just a trendy copy of what’s happening right now? It’s worth having untainted ears listen to your music and to be as objective as possible.

12.)HAVE SOMETHING NEW, ALL OF THE TIME

It takes time to write and record. The gap in between a release can be long enough to kill any demand for your music. Some bands take years between album releases. For example, TYR took 6 years between recent album releases. It was long enough to let their audience move on and has a seriously negative impact on album sales. The band is still trying to get the traction that they once had.

13.)IT”S A BUSINESS
In the end, it’s still a business. Every choice you make should serve the business end of things. If you get traction, you can double down and then make a video and make more music. If you don’t get any traction, it may be time to adjust. No matter what, start with your best song and move forward.

I know this all sounds like a “COUNCIL OF GRIEF” as it were. But it’s really all about makin music for the system as it exists today instead of making music for a system that existed years ago. Of course, this is mostly about BANDS making music. The rules are a little different for guitar players making their own music in their own studios where they don’t have to spend much if any money, in order to make new music. The economy of scale is way different and much better to be honest, when one owns the means of production. It does narrow the audience a bit, but also allows for more focus. We will look in to this more in future articles.

This Vid from legendary grumpy man Glenn Fricker was very helpful in making this article.

Egad!! For that price you can almost by one of the new ipads!! They just released the video about the new ones and they start at $400 unless the standard pricing doesn't apply over there? Are new ones more expensive too?

I watched your vid again and I see what you are saying. Unless the upgraded version gives you new slots, it's just very very limited. The IOS version has two entire sections for various pedals. I can load 4 pedals in the first one and another couple after the amp. I didn't realize the android version was like that.

The new crop is crazy powerful and just about as fast as buying a new macbook. They are now running similar processors and specs which is a bit crazy. They are going to stuff 1TB of storage in the big iphone and charge $1700 for it!! That does seem a bit nuts to me, but that's where things are headed.

QUOTE (Phil66 @ Sep 14 2021, 03:52 PM) *
Thanks buddy,

I know I can buy more pedals etc BUT, if you watch my video, the block for noise reduction is the same block as where you can put distortion, you can't put noise reduction or distortion in any other slot, regardless of how many distortion pedals you buy.

It's okay, I can work around it, it's only a quick practise tool, I have my laptop with me at my holiday home for when I get more than half an hour wink.gif

Also, here in the UK they're a few more ££ https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/refurbished/i...1-ipad-pro-12-9

Well said!! That's the way I've structured Bootcamp. it's built using a sort of "Game Logic" similar to having levels in a video game. When one completes a 'Mission" it goes to BOSS LEVEL which is to have it critiqued. This is done pass/fail, and if it's a VICTORY it gets a BADGE UP/LEVEL UP. So that there is a sense of accomplishment which can often help one break through a lull in motivation.

Onward!!!

Or perhaps what are the most beneficial things to practice when we don't feel motivated or inspired

Run through scales and triads?

I know we often say put the guitar down and come back when we feel motivated, but sometimes that would be weeks for me.

Todd's Shred Journey is often my go to place I can take the lesson I'm on and start the metronome and feel I've achieved something when the click has increased.

I have always been impressed with your musical output and I know how tough it can be sometimes. You always manage o push through and create music and solos that are aspirational for many other gmc students. Your playing has even motivated me to learn new things smile.gif

Part of the mental health related diagnosis I have is lack of drive, motivation and initiative. Longer story that, anyway. It comes and goes, and it does make things a bit tricky. I'm trying my best to make it work though.

...Anyway, I'm rambling, but the short answer is: nothing. The longer answer is: When I'm not motivated I tend to seek knowledge about music, which may happen in higher or lower intensity.

if you do the in app purchase I think you should be able to expand what is available. They give you the freebie just to get you started wink.gif Also, you can pick up a refurbished apple ipad mini for very cheap through the apple refurb program. I you do grab one, you can start using THU mobile and the better version of amplitube as well. not to mention you can use garage band as a full fledged daw. Android is quite limited compared to IOS in terms of music for mobile. It's functional, just a bit less focused on making music.

Here is the link. You can get a 32gb 7th gen ipad for $200.
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/FW782LL/...ece50980dfa0ea3

QUOTE (Phil66 @ Sep 14 2021, 02:25 AM) *
Yeah it's what came with the iRig BUT, from what I can gather, it's only stripped down in amps, pedals etc not functionality, you just have to buy the extra bits you want so I don't think I'll ever be able to have NR and distortion together.

I will contact them though.

TH-U mobile isn't available for Android.

It's not a major problem as I only bought it for those times at my holiday home when time is tight and I don't want to pull out and set up the laptop wink.gif

Cheers

For these first few missions, do whatever your fingers tell you they want to do. It's just so that I can see your fingers in action. These first ones are less about learning new things than about letting me see you play. So these are much less strict than the advanced lessons. Play them in any way that is comfortable for your hand. The first one looked great!!

Welcome to BOOTCAMP Soldier!!! Your first Vid looks good!! The first few drills are very simple. They are just to get you familiar with the process here in Bootcamp. You are using a clean tone in your vid which is fine. It would be great if you could use a distorted/gain tone as well once you get past the first several Missions.

Your technique looks solid here Soldier and I don't see anything that I need to correct!! So you are off to a great start!!! To wit!!
