GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Special Guitar Body Types

Posted by: Tuubsu Feb 8 2008, 05:37 AM

Just interested in how many "not standard" guitars are here at Gmc.
I myself have a transparent red Jackson Kelly 3 with FR type bridge(Avatar), which I love and wouldn't trade for any other model. I'm planning on upgrading it though to a eerie dess swirl Jackson kelly 2 with FR after I've saved the money. smile.gif

So what kind of "special" guitars people have here?

I don't have one, but I just love how the explorer looks. You have to be the right kind of person to pull it off, but when you are it looks badass! Unfortunately I don't think I am biggrin.gif

Ive got a PRS, its sorta like a Strat, but its thinner, alot thinner, and the bottom cut is more of a bevel than a cut, as it sorta scoops out the wood ratht erhtnan cutting it out altogether

True mate! V is the badass guitar that pretty much everyone likes! cool.gif I would really like to have a white one too, same kind what Mustaine has played

But not before I have the Kelly 2! tongue.gif

I love the Razorback and the Explorer shapes. Mmm, yum.

What's a zombie? Or a draco?

Posted by: Tuubsu Feb 10 2008, 07:53 AM

they both B.C. rich models I don't think anyone else makes them, some pictures:

AND a B.C. Rich Draco

EDIT. That Draco looks pretty nasty actually...

I got a B.C. Rich Bich and it's great

It would seem that, if you like to stand out by having a different guitar then most others B.C. Rich is the way to go. They seem to have pretty damn many different body-models. SOME of them seem to go a little "overboard" for my taste though...

Edit. Not talking about that Bich of yours... more like that draco for example

I only have a couple of strat- style guitars at the moment, but by the end of this year, I would like to have one of these:

Yea, there is something about v tongue.gif

But i dont like those uber ones, gibson v's or jackson randy rhoads only cool.gif

I have a Dave Mustaine ESP LTD Sig like the one posted, but mine is black on black.

It really is a fantastic guitar. I'm sold completely on his neck profile and the king V shape.

I'd consider an offset V, but never a Gibson V, it feels too short.

The "Explorer" shape I believe is called a "Star" shaped guitar. I played one earlier this week, a coworker has over 20 gibsons and let me borrow it, I was not very impressed.

Moser makes some pretty wicked V's. You can see em on Samash.com here are pics tho.

Both are Gibson scale though, so I couldn't play em tongue.gif

The KFK sig is fantastic if that's the $1000 model, w/ EMGs + 20 DB boost. BUT it has a khaler bridge. Boo.

The Khaler trem blows bigtime, huh? sad.gif

Actually it doesn't blow big time, in fact you can "block" the trem with the twist of a screw and play it like a fixed bridge. BUT it will go out of tune on aggressive bends but with a dip of the bar, it comes back in tune. When it's locked in fixed position you can unscrew the locking nut and downtune it as a you would a fixed bridge, which is handy. Apparently they also break strings by the bead somewhat more than a Floyd will, but I get the distinct impression that for hobbyists like myself, it's not that big of a deal. I prefer FRs just because I'm more familiar with them. But the KFK is not short on features, Neck Thru with top flight electronics and hardware, you really can't go wrong. BUT the Alexi 600's are on sale right now at Sam Ash's website for $700 new. Since they have EMG HZ4 you can pretty much do a direct swap with an 81 since EMGs have that' neat wiring harness. The new Alexi 600's feature the SD Blackout. The only reason I hesitate with the Khaler is because I use bends a lot more than I use the bar, so I'd have to change my style to incorporate more dips to keep it in tune. Still a fantastic guitar (on paper), I'd love to get my hands on one and demo it though.

The turning it into a fixed bridge part sounds pretty cool, but I also use bends more than the bar. Still sounds cool, but kinda annoying...do you know if the SD Blackout pickup is worth paying more for, or would it be better to just get the older version of the Alexi-600 and swap pickups?
