GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ What Did You Want To Become When You Grow Up
Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Nov 22 2012, 09:44 AM
Just like that When I was very young - about 7 years of age, I was literally a walking talking prehistoric encyclopedia. My dream was to become a paleontologist, so I read tons of books on dinosaurs and ancient creatures. The people around me were fascinated with the fact that I could remember all those complicated names and guess what... at parties, my dad asked me to recite them to his friends
What did you guys want to become when you grow up?
Posted by: PosterBoy Nov 22 2012, 10:12 AM
Cowboy or Rockstar
Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Nov 22 2012, 10:28 AM
They go well together - look at Bret Michaels or Jerry Cantrell
Posted by: Gitarrero Nov 22 2012, 10:46 AM
the same as you Cosmin! I even studied Geology and Paleontolgy for 2 semsters Later, I wanted to become the weird german in an international guitar forum who is known for his use of one famous riff in every collab...and sometimes the costumes in video collabw. One day Ill achieve that goal. One day.

I don't actually recall wanting to be anything when I was young.. I was really fascinated with fire engines and liked dressing up as a fireman or policeman etc.. I had the uniforms and everything !!

I usually wanted to be whatever my dad was doing at the time. He's a bit of a "Jack of all". At one stage I was going to be an Opal miner, then a Mechanic, A builder, all kinds of things!

Yeah, a couple of them! I did a couple years as a mechanic apprentice with him. Also did a fair bit of home renovations with him, so I kinda building too. But yeah, guess my attention span was small and i got bored quickly. Never really followed them through!
Opals - Opels. Wow! Ive never made that conection before!

I think sometimes it definitely is better not to listen ...my dad always said I would be a secretary and I am absolutely the opposite of that! When I was little I had many dreams...I wanted to be either an astronaut or police woman but also a guitar player and a dancer; the last two I've managed to do but the first two not so much lol

Well, you managed 2 of the things you wanted to do.. many people never get as far as one !
I often get times where I think I'd like to go into the police force but then I think of some of the stuff they have to do.. the knocking on the door to tell a parent the worst news.. and I know I couldn't do that. I've got a lot of respect for anybody who works in any of the forces - fire crews, ambulance crews etc..

Oh man... That's really nasty .. I mean, honestly speaking, yes, in the force you have to deal with A LOT of critical situations where your focus power and self control are being pushed to the limits.
Imagine that in Romania, cases in which the police battles gypsies armed with swords or guns is not a fairy tale

I considered being on the police force as I have some good friends there. I did work with them for a bit assisting in other areas and yes Ben, there are some terrible things to witness that will indeed stick with you. It takes a special type of person to do that type of job. Some of the things that I saw were terrible and actually made me realize that I could not have done that job well as I would have gotten myself into trouble in how I would have dealt with the child offenders. They would have had a bad day, then I would have just been in trouble myself.

Awesome thread mates.... I wanted to become a doctor, an actor, and a cricketer, when I was 7 or so. Then, when I turned 15, I thought I'd become a pro-gamer and a doctor. (Well.. I could be OK not being a doctor if I had lot of money by gaming ) Then, I turned 16, and I wanted to be a rockstar, and a doctor as a back up plan Now, 2 years later, I am in Russia, studying medicine, and now, playing guitar too.... I wish I become a real rockstar and be a pro musician.
You might ask, why doctor all the way, because my dad is a great one I really look upto him.. Since I was a little baby. I so miss him now

It is a great thread!!! When I was a kid and people asked who I wanna be I was saying that I want to be a president! LOL Everybody was laughing at me! But I truly wanted that! After I picked up guitar and saw a movie about The Beatles I have decided that being a musician would be a better job than being a president so I changed my career goals!

I am a mechanical engineer (on paper at least ) The things I learned in college, have helped me develop two very important aspects:
- teaching me how to solve situations/ problems - organizing my thinking process
I never intended to work as an engineer, but being able to think like one allows me to learn almost anything I like to think
