I do it sometimes on live shows. First you shouls have a strap lock. Material isn't really important but you should always do it with your neck protected with clothes, never touching your skin. If you do it on the body skin you will end up with some nasty looking scars, no matter the strap material. Yngwie does it non-stop and he always protect his neck with a shirt.

It was the exam at "Guitar Institute" in London when I was a student. I think he meant that its nice that you have something to show when giving someone an advice. Hence having an "instructional video" even though its really not an instructional video .
