Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Winter Tune IX by Piotr Kaczor

Hey there! I love the Winter Tune series of Piotr so much!! Always great music and playing! So now i had to give it a shot! I messed up a little bit in the "silent" part, but the instructions said feel free to make my own feeling of that part... :-D

Hi mate!

This is awesome! The lesson is very long, demanding, and new! You did a killer job learning the whole thing that fast! I can say that your performance is very good mate. Everything sound clean and tight! You did a great job!

There are only a few details that could be improved:

- Your vibrato: Your technique is good, but you could get more from the original lesson. Piotr's vibrato tends to be wider and that gives this one much more emotion.

- The slow part: It's ok to play your thing there. I just think that it's the most imprecise part. Some notes are muted, and again more vibrato would be welcome!

- The picking parts could sound stronger and more defined. The riffs are sounding good, but some more consistence would make everything sound even better.

I know that you'll be able to work on these small details, you've done a lot in a very short period of time. Congrats!!!

Wow - very cool to see you dive into this amazing lesson so fast!

I think you did really well here - and the one obvious thing that will take you to the next level here is your vibrato. It is also the most important aspect that differentiates your playing from Piotr's killer style.

Listen carefully how Piotr phrases his vibrato - most of the time he starts gently and gradually builds it up. But he also phrases his vibrato differently depending on if the passage is soft or aggressive/heavy.

Other than that Piotr's timing feels more relaxed, but I suspect you could easily fix this by giving the lesson some more time to sink in (I don't see any consistent timing issues in your playing).

Other than that pitch accuracy when bending felt like it needed more work.

Overall very well done - you get an 8 from me! Can't wait to see more of your REC takes 😎

Hey there!

Piotr is an excellent player and lot of us love this series of his smile.gif Excellent choice.

First impression after very first few notes - tone. A little fizzy I guess...to be more precise it has somthing unpleasant in the narrow range between 5 and 6 khZ. To compare - Piotr is using more Dream Theater related tone - definitely more mids and lower point of low pass. It's rather making tone bright with high mids (2-3 kHz) than actual treble (4-6 kHz) speaking in terms of usefull guitar spectrum in teh mix.

In the beginning riff section I'm not 100% sure what, but something is causing loss of tightness and "loosen" notes. I bet it's one of both - hand sync issue or imprecise fretting with left hand. Going even further I bet it's just so fresh that you still aren't confident enought at some points. Time will do the job if you let it.

The middle part sound overall good with just a slice of timing issues and a few moment of hesitation caused probably by exactly same reason, as previously mentioned.

Soft part - even if Piotr allows some freedom to feel yourself in it, it still rerquires simialr softness and sens of dynmics. My tip here is...watch out for your picking. You can make a less roll out with the volume knob and less picking on your strength. This way you will keep the compression to support sustain of slided notes, and you will smoothen up the unnecessary attack of the pick. Flat pick will also help. Pick angle applies some scratch noise so you can create more round tone just by using straight pick position.

In the final part Piotr puts everything on the vibrato depth. I think you can pass just a little on teh speed but make sure to make it sound deeper.
