Very good question Jason,and I'm pleased that you asked.
You are right,it is easier to play with click on start of each triplet or every group of two 8th notes. I guess you're having some problems with 16th and 16th triplets at the moment, so it's ok to practice it in 8th for now.(double speed and you need to play same thing,that's true) My only suggestion is NOT to use this routine for too long. Because one day you'll get into band,a song will be in about 80 BPM and you will MUST play 16th or 16th triplets. Asking your drummer "mate,give me double time" ,hmm...sounds bit odd Do you feel this is a bad habit? Not,if you quit with it at one point Keep me updated of how you progress with this,ok? Cheers!
