GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Nuno Bettencourt

Posted by: FrankW May 30 2008, 04:02 AM

Other than the cool, and very accurate lesson by GMC teacher, Jerry Arcidiacono, I haven't seen anything on Nuno. He's known mainly for the 'More Than Words' song, but he's a fabulous electric guitarist. Nuno shreds with the best of them, but he stands out because he has an awesome bridge pickup tone, and a very distinctive style. Jerry nailed that tone, by the way. Nuno's style is bluesy and funky at the same time, with the cool rock tone. He really rips on the Extreme albums, and is very diverse, style-wise. He really is worth checking out, because he doesn't sound like anyone else. And I bid you a good day!

Yeah, you're right, poor choice of topic descrption. Nunos' not underrated, just not on the tip of everybodys' tongue at the moment. He's one of my favorites!

Nuno is great. Regarding Extreme, I only liked "Pornograffitti"; Nuno's riffs in "Suzie" and "He-Man Woman Hater" are just incredible. "III Sides To Every Story and "Waiting For The Punchline" are just lame albums in comparison with "Pornograffitti". To be honest, the only thing I liked about Extreme was Nuno. I have always thought that Gary Cherone is kind of an annoying singer. It was kind of funny to see him dance and sing when he joined Van Halen.

Anyways, I agree with the rest of the guys, Nuno was never underrated. As a matter of fact, he is very well known and respected.

BTW, Nuno's latest band "Satellite Party" is pretty amazing. Besides, the singer is Perry Farrell! Check it out if you didn't, they have recorded just one album called "Ultra Payloaded". Nuno left the band after that album though.

By the way, I've heard that Extreme (original line-up except Paul Geary) announced a World Tour during Summer of this year wink.gif

yes, Satellite Party's album is great! Nuno participation on it was very good. I felt angry when I knew that he left the band. mad.gif

Nuno rocks. He can come up with some tremendous guitar-lines that can make any bad song interesting. (The 3rd Extreme album would be a good proof of that wink.gif )

Weird, a portugese title? "Saudade de Rock" means "Longing for Rock" in English. I bet Nuno has been "living la vida loca" in Rio biggrin.gif

Great news about the new Album! I saw Extreme play quite a few years ago, Nuno was awesome, and as a band they were incredibly tight, rhythmically and vocally, it was a great show!

Tight indeed. Extreme was one of the first bands I saw at a "real" live concert in Copenhagen about 16-17 years ago, and they were my golden standard for concert performances for years after that. Haven't followed them for years, though -- didn't even know they were back. smile.gif

And yeah, Bettencourt's playing was one of those guitarists who made me decide to learn guitar -- and no, not because of More Than Words (which is a good -- and effective -- song, just went overplayed, I guess) smile.gif
