I wonder if it's painful to lose all your dignity while making this kind of "music"...

Posted by: Sergei Polusmiak May 3 2009, 07:58 PM

I don't think they had any dignity to begin with.

But why does it appeal to so many people?

Posted by: superize May 3 2009, 08:00 PM

That was horrible

Posted by: fkalich May 3 2009, 08:01 PM

The thing about being really stupid, is that there are a zillion ways to be a moron. There are usually several ways to be intelligent, given a situation, but it is a small finite number. But there are always a zillion ways to be to blithering idiot. So finding a new way to have the intellect of an artichoke is nothing to be proud of really, it is easy to do.

I have bad taste buds? I dont taste most music.

Posted by: Ctodd May 3 2009, 09:52 PM

Oh c'mon people, the reactions that you are having to this are the same reactions people when they here heavy metal, and the same reactions people had one old-school rock and roll first hit the scenes. And I know that many of you are into the whole Opeth/Iced Earth sort of music. If It's not your thing, then it's not your thing, but condemning it and saying that it's not music is just not right.

I listened to the whole thing and enjoyed it, it carries a lot of energy. And yes, I know what most of you will say, it's the same riff over and over again. But that which is not musical is not that which is not music.

When you play a song like this at a college party, people get excited, and people like it. end of story... it's a good song.

I'm not trying to start an argument (obviously) but I always get a little upset when I hear people condemning any sort of genre of music.

Posted by: Jesse May 3 2009, 10:10 PM

I kind of agree, not that I enjoyed it, but that at a party, people woud like it. I think tho, it's just taste, I don't know. I think the lyric's are pretty lame but anyway........

Posted by: Sergei Polusmiak May 3 2009, 10:19 PM

I wasn't saying you couldn't listen to it. But you have to admit they do not use much of their talent (if they have any at all)

Posted by: Jesse May 3 2009, 10:20 PM

tongue.gif I even liked this intro... too catchy! till 0:45

Hehe, sorry!:D .....

Half of today's pop-stars have no talent. Kanye West *cough* tongue.gif But whoever is writing for them does. The stuff on Kanye's albums are great, and I enjoy the music. But he can't sing AT ALL when on stage. Part of listening to music (for me) is recognizing talent, but only a small part. Sure it doesn't take much talent at all to write what was posted at the beginning of this thread, but when I here something like that it just makes me want to get up and start jumping up and down. I don't think "wow, these guys are geniuses".

But it's frustrating to hear people condemn something that alienates them, or something they don't understand. If I said something like "Listen to this song by Iced Earth, all they are doing is just screaming jibberish into a microphone and playing really f'ing loudly." I sort of feel I would be attacked by the metal-heads of this forum, and rightfully so!

Ignorance is just ugly...

EDIT: Sorry, I'm sure I misinterpreted some of your reactions, but this is just directed at at the sort of directed at a general crowd of people who have these reactions to music. I feel there's just this never-ending war between people that hate Music genre A for reasons B and C, and people who like Music genre A for those same reasons. I'll say it again, if a person likes a certain pop-song like the one in this thread, for someone else to say that it's "terrible music".... eh... I just don't like it when people say such things.

Yeah, but its not really screamo though. That's like saying Death is Black Metal because chucks voice is the same as Nocturno Culto and therefore it is Black Metal.

But ehh, this band just found a way to rip off the masses with one hit wonders, and I admire every band who sells music for more than what its worth. I also stopped caring about the world of terrible music. You guys all bitch and moan about this stuff, when really there is nothing to throw tantrums at. Its just a bunch of guys milking every sucker for what its worth. If I was that creative, oh man I would have a stable income for the next 3-5 years!

You're probably right but I'm happy to progress towards senility if this is what's considered hip modern music. Now, where did I but my tartan slippers and paisley dressing gown?

Posted by: berko May 6 2009, 12:15 PM

I'm not telling this ISN'T music. Sure, if it's been viewed so many times and they even managed to put it together in a studio, it has to have some good effect on at least some people.

Personally I'm not a metal-head, I frequently lesson to all kinds of cross-over genres, I like electronic music (from trance to house), I like many rappers and so forth. I even listen to some mainstream pop because I know that most of the times it's not the singer/artist who writes the songs but some professional songwriter behind a desk with a synth and an acoustic.

But this is still ridiculous. I'm not commending music, but the abuse of music. I'm not the fan of crap music during parties after 2 am. A proper dj can still set up a playlist with some great, powerful music to entertain people - fast, melodic, straightforward dance music.

Electronic music doesn't have to be bad. This particular example is being made worse by the poor quality (or total lack) of mastering and sound engineering.

It may very well be that the convergence of screaming white hip-hop and electronic rave music could still work (for some folks) but that this particular foray into the genre is just badly produced?

Posted by: Koopid May 8 2009, 09:42 PM

I seriously don't see anything about this that is worse than death metal... Infact in my ears the "singing" sound very similar to me. The music is much better in death metal but that is just taste.. The singing is equally suck smile.gif

Death metal vocalists dont "suck", just because you dont like it, doesent mean its bad. it takes alot of skill and practice to do what death metal vocalists do,and for that, they deserve respect. im so sick of threads on this forum saying "so and so sucks!", its a waste of time and not very respectful.

Well, the whole point of this entire thread has been to bash on a group that does vocals very similar to deathmetal vocalists, I didnt see you say anything about any of the other "disrespectful" comments on this thread but I guess maybe it's not disrespectful when it is music *you* don't like?

Besides, what i meant was that the vocals suck, not the vocalists. I don't really care how much practice and skill it takes to do it, it still sounds like rubbish to me. Yngwie Malmsteen is a very talented guitarists, I still think his music is bleh. And that is not disrespectful, its just my taste.

Not if you want respect - as evidenced within this thread (and in other forums where I've seen this band mentioned) tongue.gif
I guess that death metal vocals are an acquired taste. For a good while, I didn't get it either and thought I'd never like death or blackened vocals and I thought most extreme metal was beyond me until I heard death/doom bands and started liking the use of death grunts, especially when I heard Opeth. Similarly for blackened vocals - didn't get it until I heard bands such as Emperor and Enslaved, or Deathspell Omega.
Point is - I started liking bands that I once thought "sucked" - it's all too subjective. If I say a band is bad or good, that doesn't mean the band are either - it simply means I have an opinion. Opinions are nice - everyone has them and they're not always the same. It would be a boring world if everyone just agreed with one another.

Regardless, I think I'm right in saying that this band are "screamo".. not death metal.

Posted by: VinceG May 10 2009, 11:14 PM

its not even screamo. Screamo vocals are a whole nother level. Kind of like Metalcore vocals are not really death metal vocals.

Who will the Record Company, Producer, Writer and Managers make more money from??
A Pre-packaged Plastic Pop band is far more lucrative than a decent Musician who would want more control over his/her Artistic Output. It is no longer 'The Music Business' it has become 'The Business of Music' where the Almighty Greenback is King!!!
