I need a webcam.

For use in these videos and what not.

What do you recommend? What do you use for software to record your videos?

Logitech pro 9000 is awesome!

I just started using one and I'm really blown away by the quality in comparison to other webcams- great price too i think.

Software- you can use the bundled software or use windows movie maker.

Best to record audio seperately- then align them using movie maker (i actually use sony vegas but movie maker should do the trick okay).

Yikes!

$100

what makes this one better in your opinion than say the Microsoft Lifecam for $44?

I appreciate the recommendation of course, just looking for what I'm getting for the extra $50+

You can probably find some comparison videos around youtube or something- also this thread:
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...=18806&st=0
Has some test videos- take some ttime to download/watch every video from the thread so you get the idea.

Its a great webcam though- they claim it is HD, but IMO it is as close to HD as a webcam of that price range will get.

And btw- look on ebay, im seeing them on there new at around $65

web cams are good for skype and video conferences. They are not that good for recording lessons. Most of webcams have 15fps (frames per second) and that's not enough for smooth moving picture especially if you play fast stuff. For lesson recordings I have a Samsung camcorder which can produce 29fps.

I would either recommend that logitech 9000 cam which is pretty good , or a used (or new) DV camcorder...Second option is a little better but you will need to separately record audio (if it doesn't have the mic input) but the picture will be better...

There are webcams reporting up to 30fps. If I stay with one that does this, and use the appropriate recording mode, will it be acceptable do you think?

I have just looked at this

Technical Specifications

- 1.3-megapixel sensor with RightLight™2 Technology
- Built-in microphone with RightSound™ Technology
- Video capture: Up to 1280 x 1024 pixels (HD quality) (HD Video 960 x 720 pixels)
- Frame rate: Up to 30 frames per second
- Still image capture: 5 megapixels (with software enhancement)
- USB 2.0 certified
- Optics: Manual focus

Looks ok for the price. I am not sure about 1.3-megapixel sensor. Read some reviews online that might help.

I've seen some videos posted by GMC:ers here with the logitech 9000 and they were really good for a web cam, plus theur size was really small too. I'm getting a webcam soon and it will be a logi 9000 for sure.

Jer the one you post looks good but costs almost as much as the 9000, I'd go for the 9000 instead.

The Logitech 9000 is way better than that one.

Yes but it is much worse image resolution which is incredibly important also. fps isn't all you should be interested in. The difference between that cam and the logitech 9000 is huge. That one is 1.3 megapixels and the logitech one is 2 megapixels which is a lot better and it does it in a clearer quality and the stills on the logitech one are 8 megapixels which is quite stunning. The Logitech 9000 is easily one of the best webcams out and you wouldn't be disappointed. The image quality of the other two you have linked to may disappoint you.

Another thing to watch out is focus. Often webcams will have manual instead of autofocus, so you should be careful when recording, because you don't want your picture blurred.
That Logitech 9000 cam looks good I guess, but you will need a lot of light for it, because it doesn't have a good optics. Optimal light is 1kW.
