Hello from the snows of Scotland. I have been guided to here by Bogdan Radovic.
I still have to investigate most of the forum and the website but I'm very impressed with what I've seen so far. smile.gif

I'm in my late 50s and after a 20 year break from playing started to get back into playing guitar around the year 2000. Started to take it seriously about 4 years ago (4 years and 1 day ago I joined JamPlay and that kick started a real enthusism for guitar).

I have been trying to play blues in that 4 years - my wife got me interested in the genre and also suggested I play without a pick. Both suggestions made the guitar so much more enjoyable for me. 2 to 3 years ago I started to crack the hearing notes in the head and playing them on the fretboard puzzle - transformed my interest in guitar into an obsession. She even encourages me to buy more expensive gear when I'm trying to decide what to get. cool.gif

I love to spend most of my guitar time playing along to backing tracks - the focus of my mind on the music when I do this is like medication - eases the stresses away of the days real life problems.

The last four years have seen a ridiculous procession of electric guitars bought and then sold, but finally I think I have 4 keepers ... well for the time being anyway. I'm trying to stick to 4 maximum - that's tough. Not sure if my amp situation is as settled, but I'm a bit restricted on amps living in a flat - volume is a big issue. sad.gif

Look forward to joining in the discussions with you all on the forum.

Thanks for all the welcomes guys - glad to be here. Looking forward to having more spare time to enjoy the website and forum. January / early February is my busiest time of the year at work and it also means what spare time I have I'm too tired to do much at all! sad.gif

Thank you for the offers of help if needed too - it may become apparent to you all before long there's some things I probably need help with.

In the absence of time to do much recording just at the moment here's links to three relatively recent PRS SE recordings on Soundclick which demo the sort of sounds I'm getting from it. It'll highlight my shorcomings quite nicely too - and show why I need to look at the lessons here. Don't expect fireworks - my hands and fingers are too old and creaky to get to much more than a crawl.

This is about as much as I let myself off the leash I'm afraid. Direct recording using Vox Tonelab LE.
"A Two Day Easter" - improv - Viking Blues

Not blues and ccertainly not Jazz! Any Jazz comes from the David Wallimann Backing Track.
"See You, See Me, C Jazz Club" - Improv - Viking Blues

Not really blues, but feeling the "blues" when recording it. Mic recording off amp.
"Lost Memories" - Improv - Viking Blues

Welcome to GMC man smile.gif
A lot of my friends, who were beginning to play with me and left the guitar because of other commitments, now 30years after, want to return to music and guitar and that's fantastic ! In the last few years I have been an advisor for them for at least 50 guitars, bass guitars, drums, amps, and god knows what !

Hey mate! I have listened to the tracks - you take my mind to players such as Larry Carlton - that sort of vibe. Other than some bends which are not reaching the pitch all the time, it looks like you have a pretty good direction when playing, although there are points where dynamics could be a little varied.

I think you are on a good road, but you have to polish your skills and phrasing to become better! We're here to help out biggrin.gif Sweet tone as well wink.gif

Thanks Sinisa and Ben. smile.gif

This coming back to guitar after a break while raising a family seems to be a very common story - keep finding plenty of oldies like me on the various guitar forums that have done that.

Thanks for listening - I appreciate it smile.gif - and you are quite right in mentioning those areas needing improvement - and I think you've been very kind with your comments. I'm hoping to gain a lot more insight and skills from here - I hope to be able to keep learning and progressing for as long as am able.

I just wish I'd made a proper go of the guitar when I was younger. It's a lot tougher learning new tricks in my late fifties.

The onset of joint pains in the fingers doesn't help either .... I'd like to use that as an excuse for the bends not hitting the target .... but I won't 'cos it would be a lie! tongue.gif

Thanks for the welcome Todd. I'm finding lots of interest on the forums though not much time for learning at the moment.

I do appreciate your comments. I would like to give a go at improving bends though I should say that at the moment I've not got a lot of spare time (January / February are my busiest two months at work, and by the time I'm eventually home I'm mentally drained). But if there's things that I can work on that would help me I'd certainly like to give it a go.

I ought also to point out, in case it's a problem, that I've not really got the hang of videos of myself playing - combination of lack of knowledge, decent software, properly compatible video camera etc. I have managed a few videos but each one took hours to create / finalise.

Welcome to GMC! Great intro and playing! As I read everyone's intro's they are so similar to me it's astonishing. Seems lots of folks like myself took a way too long break from the guitar and are now back playing again. It is a great stress reliever indeed. I have found myself liking the Funk Blues backing tracks recently for some reason they relax me when I jam along... smile.gif

Indeed as Cosmin stated earlier... everyone here is wonderful to help out. Your toughest decision is yet to come... which instructor will you choose? They are all excellent as both musicians and people, but any one of them will help you no matter what, as will the rest of the guys and gals here.

Enjoy!

-Mark
