All this crazy sub-genres are really moronic now. Alestorm is not Pirate Metal, its Metal band that sing about Pirates. That's it. Lyrical Theme's doesn't make another genre (and that goes for many many "viking" metal bands". I choose to ignore it till a band actually includes some sort of appeal to make the genre more credible rather than Pirate Themed Metal.

Also, no body ever cares about Running Wild. They have been singing about Pirates, Golds, and all that Pirate Themed stuff since the mid 80's.

Ah calm down. I think it can be called pirate metal, the music seems really..er...piratey.

But not to start a fight but most anytime someone mentions a band you bad mouth it.

sorry. Alestorm is actually not bad, I dont hate them for singing about Pirates or anything. I just choose to lump them as a kind of novelty band. I'd just like to hear a band that would start a complete genre and hull it as something original for a change. Yeah, Pirate Metal would be nice, but be a bit original about it rather than just playing Heavy Metal and sing about Pirates, then tell everyone its Pirate Metal.

Granted I just heard these guys when i had posted, but it sounds like they are kinda pirat sounding...there should be a word for that.

I'll check out Running Wild too, thanks for mentioning them.

They're great guys, if not the most amazing musicians. I hung out with 'em a lot (made a post about it on one of these forums somewhere, actually) and i can't wait to see 'em for the third time at the end of the month.

I remember back when they were Battleheart, unsigned and all that. Crazy that they're on their first US tour now. Utterly awesome that I met them on their first full day in America, too.

As for running wild, they don't always sing about pirates and such, and not all of their music has a piratey theme.

My favorite Alestorm song is probably Nancy the Tavern Wench. Tons of fun to sing along to.

Yeah, instead of playing metal and signing about pirates they should actually be pirates!!!!! They should storm the venue brandishing cutlasses and hacking anyone in between them and the booty to pieces! Kidnap a few girls to ransom (or worse) and then make the promoter walk the plank!

Yeah, that'd be WAYYYY better.

Yeah, that's true for Running Wild, but still give em credit where credit is due. They were singing about Pirates way before Pirates were cool again. They even dress up like colonials sometimes laugh.gif
