so i've started finger picking drills and is there any real reason why the PIMA method is used and the pinky is left doing nothing.

I realise it can act as like a balance or pivot point, but I'm interested in learning flamenco style so my hand is not going to be even be resting in 1 spot for very long so it would seem learning to pick with the pinky resting on the guitar is probably not going to help and even hinder that progress

Pinky is the weakest finger and as on classical guitar it takes a lot of strength to produce a good, quality sound pinky is mostly not used. Resting pinky on the guitar is an overall bad habit.

As for flamenco - you will never need to pick with pinky in a traditional sense of "picking a single string" so you should not worry about inactive pinky. As soon as we get started with flamenco lessons here you will now how to use your pinky. smile.gif
