One advantage some argue is that the string holder stops forcing the body as tension is decreased. Though I've never seen it, I read that in time that part starts to move (as an alternate solution to wraparound is its advised not to lower it too much).
What I noticed on a friends guitar was the high freq.s responce slightly decreased (sweeter sound or muddy if the guitar isn't already bright)) while the string felt a bit looser. But I did like resting my hands on the strings a lot as I'm not used to the gap of the bridges design.
