I would show them Cannibal Corpse...

And if they would ask what metal is....I would show Metallica playing Harvester of sorrow in Moscow 91

If thats the point then, I'd not touch the new bands which have created new sub genre's.. I'd go back to the roots ... as you mentioned Cannibal Corpse is UP THERE .. along with Emperor, Mayhem, Deicide, Cryptopsy, Immortal etc ... now THATS PURE DEATH METAL .... \m/ ... I'd show em that and ask em to growl with it tongue.gif

Hmm as a proud norwegian Kvltist.. I have to say Immortal, Emperor and MAYHEM (Whom im seeing in may) Are True Kvltists of Black Metal, but if you meant extreme metal in general.. Id agree.. But again BLACK METAL! Death metal has gore and normal people, black metal has dead animals and insane people (Look up Dead from mayhem)

I would show them Cannibal Corpse...

I get a bit lost with all the different genres there are now!!!
Back in the Day when I were a lad we listened to 'ROCK' or if you were really extreme 'METAL'!!!!
laugh.gif laugh.gif

To answer your question though, surely Necrophagist would be up near the top of the list too?

Suffocation, Carcass, Death, Possession, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, for the roots of the genre. And then Scar Symmetry, Arch Enemy, Obscura, Augury, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Necrophagist for some more modern stuff.

And I would also, Just because I feel obligated, Have to show them this.
