Hi guys!

A realy quick one ....whata is the difference between overdrive and distirtion? I was planing to bay an analog dist. pedal (any advice would help) and i heard some guys speak about overdrive and how it gives you a more powerfull sound. Do I need one? So I thaught to ask for some opinion/advice/expirience. Perhaps there is an old thread....

The second question has to do with recording at home or at practice session with band. I was planing to buy and external soundcard (here is the link):

But I've seen that a lot of people use LINE 6 POD. again....some opinion/advice/expirience, old threads

In very simplified terms, what overdrive pedal does is emulate the overdriven tube amp. With overdrive pedal you get more mellow kind of sound. Distortion pedals usually have more harsh and hard-clipped effect on the signal.

The sound of different dist/OD pedals is very different and I can give you some suggestions, but first it is important for you to tell me what are you planning to do with the pedal? What will be it's purpose, what else do you have from gear?

EMU Tracker is a great interface with hardware quality superior to that from POD. However, with EMU you don't get LINE 6 modeling, you get Amplitube LE, and if you want to model your guitars using some other modelers like Guitar Rig or POD Farm, you will have to buy/download them separately. With EMU you get better software bundle as well, like Cubase LE and other very useful stuff, while you don't get anything with POD, possibly Abletone Live Lite I'm not sure.
So if you want a decent solution out of the box go for POD, if you want great quality, good software with fairly decent modelling (amplitube LE), go for EMU.

Ivan's on about overdrive vs distortion. A distortion pedal distorts the signal itself. An overdrive pedal boosts the signal going to the amp to make the amp distort. The pedal I use does a bit of both. Well, a lot of both if I want it to.
