If I buy an sm57, what kind of wire do I need to hook it up? Going to hook it up through my toneport for now (thatll work right?) So do I need a male xlr to TRS or female xlr to TRS? I'm confused tongue.gif I'm assuming male.

The Mic has a Male XLR on it, so the cable needs to be Female XLR to TRS.

Thanks andrew. If no one had responded I'd have probably gone the other way.

Ah but I don't have the toneport with a mic input. Otherwise would have just done that tongue.gif

[edit]

While we're at it, any ballpark tips for recording with a mic?

And bogdan, how about some bass recording tips cause I can't seem to get a bass tone I'm satisfied with from the toneport tongue.gif

Well I also found that its hard to get the decent bass guitar sound from amp models in the toneport..I record bass by going from the recording out from the amp to the mic input on toneport (and killing all amp models etc and going dry)...I find very hard to get the right dynamics from the tone port for slap bass for example..

p.s. I added two of my presets that work decent for me.. wink.gif

Hey thanks smile.gif I don't have a bass amp so I can't use the '57 on it, going to have to go through toneport for now.

Well I find it good for fingerstyle don't get me wrong..Its good device..But I find it lacking the needed dynamics for slap bass (but thats personal preference too)...Also I have no money for experimenting and buying the bass expansion pack they are offering on their web site..Toneport is little more guitar oriented by default...Maybe expansion pack would do the trick (they add new bass amp models and everything) wink.gif

I use it in conjunction with a sennheiser md 421, my favourite placement is the "inside dust cup edge" of the cone, I use a mesa Mark IV and a small mesa 1X12 cabinet half open back.

I found this position the most balanced, anyway the SM57 alone will produce a very present/bright sound providing a wide frequency response with an intelligibility-enhancing presence peak (back in 1965 was designed as microphone for speech applications)
