Hello guys, hows it going? hope its going good.

anyways, the guitar im in love with, uses a so called Edge III Bridge. Now, i dont have the least idea what that is, how it opperates, how efficient it is, etc.

I think its like a Floyd Rose, but im not sure.

What i want to know is if this bridge makes harder to put the strings (like in floyd roses), harder to tune, etc. Id just like to know about this bridge in general, the pros and the cons. Thanks. wink.gif

Its a Floyd Rose style bridge I think licensed. It has all the plusses and minuses you'd expect from the whole FR thing. I don't have one so can;t say much more than that except that not all FRs are created equal, and I rememer reading that the Edge III is one of the suckier ones, as opposed to for instance the Edge Pro you get on the Prestige models.

NO!, ive played one, it just plain didnt work for me, so i think you should steer clear. They are sub par in terms of production quality and materials. I have an edge pro and it is amazing, save for a prestige, you get a better floyd, but you also get superior japanese build quality, and a great hardcase.

The Pro can lock the string with the ball still attached. The Edge III locks the string with a block. It's happend, at least to me but only a few times, that a string has slid out. Perhaps it has happened to me two times in 15 years... so to me it's not even a problem.
EDIT: That was with the Jackson FR, not the Edge III, but they are made the same way. END:

Don't know if Pro and Edge III are made of different material, I think so. Perhaps someone else knows for sure. That could be an issue of uneven quality in the Edge III tremolos.

I don't own a Pro so I can't compare, I just can say that my Edge III and Floyd Rose licenced by Jackson work equaly well. So it's wrong to say they are crap, at least I've been lucky. Like Andrew says I also saw that in another thread but in my opinion it's just wrong. But that's from my experience, hard facts could say something else.

My guess is that if you get a Pro you may see advantages with it compared to lower end tremolos. With that experience I'm sure you can say a Pro is better. But from where I stand you can't say an Edge III is crap, it works very well for me. Perhaps I've just been lucky and got away with a good Edge III trem and most others are crap, I don't know that either since I havn't owned more than the one in my own Ibanez.
The FR licenced by Jackson I've had for many years and it's always been good to me.

And surely, if you have a FR trem and just hate it there's a possibility to put a piece of wood behind the trem inside to lock it. One in front aswell to lock it both ways. Viola you have a fixed bridge.
I know, that's not what you want when you get a FR but it's a way out.

The only downside to an EDGE PRO III Bridge is that very rarely the string might slide out, ive had it happen to me once in one year so far, it doesnt happen alot, other than that, its awesome, keeps my strings in tune, and its very comfortable and easy to maneuver. smile.gif

You can replace the bridge with an Edge PRO Actually, its not that hard, but i think the bridges are a little expensive. Ive never really had any problem with this bridge, the guitar you said you were buying shoudl work great, i say go for it, thats my oppinion.

PS
Most people when they first change strings and/or mess with a floating bridge will get very frsutrated with it, reagrdless of bridge type, so if that happens, its normal, after a little while with it, its all good and smooth sailing smile.gif

If you're looking for an ibanez, and were considering the RG Edge III series, id move up to to RG1570 prestige, i have it and its thumbs up defo, its the cheapest of all the prestiges, but with a pup swap its a beast.

The cheapest Prestige is still double an RG350's price, If you can afford it though, buy it without hesitation.

Yeah, but i have had both guitars, and the extra saving for the prestige was the best thing i could have done, im 100% happy ,and would have been very disappointed with the 350.

My guitar has the edge 3... little tricking tuning it, and there is some learning curve getting use to a floating tremelo, but the Edge Pro floats as well.

Once it's in tune the thing never seems to lose it's tune... only thing I've seen is the strings can come 1/4 to 1/2 step out of tune just by pressing on the tremelo...
