I broke my high e today and I don't have any spares around (none that i can find anyway) so I unscrewed the locking nut and loosened it at the post a bit so it would be longer and hooked it up and voila, a temporary solution.

But the thing is it is sitting way lower than the rest of the strings. I didn't mess with the action or anything when I was re setting it. Even if all the other strings are pretty much in tune the high e is just way lower, its almost touching the fretboard...

so solutions? diagnosis?

I always do that when string breaks, loosen it and hook to the bridge again.
But not sure how it gets lower action tho,
you should check the bridge, part where string is attached to,
there is s small allen screw and if it loses then you get detuned string
and eventually lower action, just guessing tho, not sure,
I would have to see it for more detailed reply. smile.gif

Getting the stupid tremolo in tune right now is making me want to throw it through a wall (floating tremolos and me = love-hate relationship) so I'm just gonna call stop messing with it and get new strings tomorrow. Hopefully it will raise up if I put a new one on. Not sure how but I have much to big an urge to kill something right now to continue working on it.

Yeah, floating trem is really tricky to handle sometimes.
Take a break and try with new strings as well,
maybe those are just too old and using the same one again
doesn't work anymore, might be.
