Guitars in mastered recordings are "pomped" with some multiband compressors and even full recordings have some extreme mid-range cut off. Without proper dynamics, the tone comes from the amp(simulation) and the effects, while tube amps capture every nuance of your playing, thus bringing out the tone from your fingers.
