Pentatonic Solo Lesson, Lesson By Marcus Siepen |
|
Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.
The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Here is my take on this. Please let me know what you think and needs improvement. I recorded on my IPad Pro. Used the headrush gigboard for the guitar sound. This is my first recording. I'm still learning to record. |

While I'm listening to this for grading, I wanted to tell you that you can run your headrush directly in to your ipad and get great sound rather than having to use the built in mic on the ipad which can make things harder to hear. You may need a converter to get the lightening port to usb, I think the camera conversion kit will do the trick. That way you just plug usb directly
in to your ipad and can record direct sound. If that doesn't work you can use just about any usb based audio interface to record the output of your headrush in to your ipad using the garage band app or what not inside the ipad pro. The new scarlet solo runs about $100. The good news is you have plenty of power in the ipad pro and can do as many tracks as you like whether you record direct from the head rush, or use an audio interface, either way the sound quality will be amazing and we will be able to hear your playing very clearly. Hi Dave!
I'd like to give feedback regarding two techniques: alternate picking & vibrato. Alternate Picking: I see that you are starting the up and down movement from your fingers (right hand) while it's recommendable to start it from your wrist. Fixing this is not an easy job if you are too used to the way you are picking, but I think that it will be essential if you want to get a more consistent picking technique. I recommend you get into these lessons: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginn...ernate-Picking/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Altern...Picking-Basics/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Picking-Hand-Basics/ Watch carefully the instructor's right hand on these lessons. Vibrato: The same feedback here. You are focusing your movement on fingers while it should start from your wrist. This lesson is great to train your vibrato: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Vibrato-Odyssey-5/ Having said that, this lesson also needs some timing adjustent so you need to focus on it, but before that please review the techniques commented, and let me know if you need any assistance. -------------------- My lessons

Hey Dave!
This lesson has and additional difficulty, which is the shuffle/swing groove - 2 8th notes should be rhytmitised as 1st and 3rd note from a triplet. It is audible that you are not familiar with shuffle yet. You may know what it is but your hands do not feel comfortable on shuffle patterns yet. I would highly recommend to go through some essential lesson of shuffle or swing topics to clarify the details. For now we can generally include this to a "timing issues". Mix - I would recommend to experiment a little more with your recording setup. You tone doesn't cut through the mix well anough to uncover some of your playing details. Your guitar get's covered by guitars from teh backing track. Simply add more volume or place the mic/phone or and additional rec device in front of your amp (room sound suggests you record "ambient" of your amp being placed in teh room). Placing anything to record in front of guitar speakers would help to get more "in face" sound of your guitar. I know it can be tricky when you capture audio and video with single device (phone fo r example) so easiest way is to place your amp right behind you, the was your camera woulod see the front of it. Intonation - your guitar sounds like being a little too low with it's pitch - especially audible on high strings. Strings tend to loose the pitch if they are not stretched enough before recording. Also...there are some simple and effective tips for tuning guitar. Please go there: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/20-Quick-Tips/ and see tip no #1 |
