I dont think so. Its very good actually. Its in depth and shows you a lot of technique to mastering the shred. Petrucci is one of the greatest shredders of our time. Im guessing you've never heard of Dream Theater then.

I think this book is really good to improve your technique, there are lot of great exercices (not the typical ones). BTW it's not a music book, but it usually happens, almost all this books are about technique but there are few that talk about music like the "melodic control" (DVD) from Marty Friedman and the "Rock Guitar Secrets" (for my the best guitar book, technique and theroy united) by Peter Fisher...

Its a fantastic DVD, i particularly like the orchestration section where he uses an ovedriven guitar playing a riff with a clean guitar playing 'complex' chords on top.

If you want to shred- then GMC can help you do that...but if your a petrucci fan get this dvd!

GMC has helped me alot with phrasing, but not speed. For some reason none of the videos on this site have helped me with speed and ive practiced some of them alot. Why am i seeing no progress?

because speed takes ALOT of time to arrive, and it might also be the way you practice, depends on many things.

Yes probably. Even with Petruccis Video speed doesn't come included in the package, it still takes a lot of practice blink.gif

But if you seek inspiration Petrucci sure is. I admire him for not playing every solo at demonic speed, some even are quite simple. He seem like a real nice fellow too.

6 months at master class is 50 usd, rock discipline dvd is 50 usd. Having both, I will say that GMC has helped me more than the DVD. I mean, it's pretty cool to see inside the head of one of the virtuosos of our time, but by virtue of shelling out the cash for that DVD, it's not going to make you practice more. The petrucci chromatic exercise on the DVD is decent for helping build speed, although I would contend not as useful as the 7 church mode workout by Walliman here on GMC. However, Petrucci's book "Wild Stringdom" which is a compilation of his guitar world columns is like $15 and every bit as good.

Why not speed kills by M.A.B, not as in depth but.. full shred ahead, and is geared towards beginning shredder and gets prety advanced. smile.gif?
