Recently there has been a huge wave of “video takedowns”. Anyone can report a video and say that it’s not “Fair Use” and it should be taken down. In this video, we learn a bit about why videos keep getting taking down.

Rick BEATO does a great job of breaking down songs to show how that a given song has certain elements that lead to making it a “HIT SONG”. He’s only using a snippet of a song and trying to show the audience something very important. “What makes a hit song”. Yet, the youtube algo tags it right away and despite the fact that it takes him tons of time and effort to create these, the algo take his songs down right away. So he has had to try to use as little of the song as possible. Under 10 seconds. This should fall under “FAIR USE” however, the youtube algo, just takes it down so all the hours of work and research are GONE and it’s very hard to fight it.

On the other hand, some people do cover videos of songs and have no trouble at all! You just never know. If you are doing a pure rip off of a song, or if you play 10 seconds of a song just to explain why this song is a hit, either way you your work pulled off.

It’ seems somewhat arbitrary. You can even get “THE LETTER” saying that you may have yoru entire channel taken down. I created a short 5 minute documentary of a Rock Star from Japan named hide Matsumoto who killed himself . I trimmed the video down so that I am not using full versions of the songs. The entire point of the video is the story of him and his music so I had to use some of the music. I didn’t try to monetize it, I just wanted to release it. Yet still I got a COPY RIGHT STRIKE and a warning. At one point they told me this video would not be seen in the UNITED STATES AT ALL!!!! I found that a bit much. I think it’s viewable now.

This seems to make no sense in that it just restricts people of the ability to make good content. Who does this help? It clearly restricts the creators. People like BEATO do a great job in deconstructing a song to help people see what it is that truly make a good song. If we get all these videos struck down, we lose a good resource IMHO of how to make good music. The entire point of youtube is to have this kind of content.

Many content creators are now LEAVING YOUTUBE and going other places where they donn’t
Get blocked/banned etc. All we can do is contact youtube and tell them that we dont’ want this to happen, we are the people that keep youtube alive and they are trying to strangle good content.

Sadly, youtube is making it harder and harder for these types of vids.

QUESTION: HAVE YOU GUYS HAVE COPYRIGHT STRIKES OR THREATS AGAINST YOUR CHANEL BY YOUTUBE?

This is my video documentary that got the copyright strike and got the warning tha they might take out my channel! I’ve had my channel on youtube for 10 years!! And for one video they threaten me with deletion.

This was the video that I got a "COPY RIGHT STRIKE" from and got the threat that my channel might be deleted!!
