The trick in alternate picking lesson is to not use economy picking and sweeps. Those are different techniques. Of course in your own playing you can decide on what kind of techniques or their combos you want to use. It's different when we consider learning lesson. Avoiding things that make it harder to play takes a way part of the profit you could get from the lesson. When you lok at original lesson video, you can notice that in the first part he is not using economy picking (he does not go from 3rd to 4th string with sweep motion - he makes straight down-up motion thorugh all the lesson. That's the idea of alternate picking. Try to consider this

Hi mate, Darius is right about the use of alternate picking. You are using a different technique when crossing strings which is not wrong but it's just different. I think that it's god to be able to master alternate picking and also economy picking so it's not bad to practice this in this way, but be sure to also work on alternate picking.

Hi man. Your timing is great but we just have the issue of alternate picking and economy picking getting mixed up together.

Every time that you move from the G string back to the B you are following the downstroke through onto the B string, making it one complete sweep. This is known as economy picking, where you use one pick direction to move through more than one string.

You have to alternate each note you play. No matter what you're moving to the next pick stroke always has to be the opposite of what you played before. This is alternate picking.

There is even a few moments where you play two separated downstrokes next to each other, such as 0:28 and every time that you end the 6 note phrase and begin it again. This is neither alternate or economy picking. This is just two downstrokes next to each other. This is a really inefficient way of picking at medium to high tempos.

I recommend you separate this lesson into smaller chunks and concentrate on getting the pick strokes correct. So, just focus on the very first phrase and then the next etc. Your ability is very good, you just need to take control of what your picking hand is doing.
