Quality of Elixer strings is really good. They definitely last longer in my opinion. However they sound also more bright, which was for me the reason not to keep them on my maple neck strat.

I've got my first set (on a mahogany neck) and I love em! They last a lot longer than the strings I used to use (daddario). Got more string separation in sound and better clarity. And I find they stay in tune like I never experienced before. Maybe the coating works as lubrication in the nut or something but it's a bug difference on this guitar of mine.

I've used some 5-6 sets of them until finally decided that they are not for me. I liked the fact that they last longer (which they really do), but I change strings before every gig anyway, so they wouldn't last that long. The second reason is that I didn't liked the sound to much. It was kinda "scooped" in mids, this is the best way to describe it. They had bottom end, and some high end clarity (which was really good btw), but didn't have enough body for my taste. As far as the quality goes, they are really great, and worth the price if you don't mind the details I've described above.

I somehow never got around to trying out some on my bass (they are really expensive)!! Wonder if they'll retain the new strings sound longer...

Yes I think they do sound new for the longest time. I think the high cost will even out compared to several sets of cheaper not so long lasting strings. -------------------- My bands homepage

Another thing to note is that these strings do not retain their tone after month. They start to sound week, so in my opinion they are not that durable, they just have a good coating that protects them from sounding very bad. I experienced loss of sustain, high end, and they broke couple of times on me because kept them more than a month on the guitar.

Elixir are maybe the best strings you can buy. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who plays live gigs or does some studio recording.

I started using them a few months ago and love them. Other strings turn rusty very fast, these ones stay bright much longer.

Ivan Milenkovic, You probably play a lot more than I do, but I've only noticed loss of tone after about 3 Months. And with normal strings it took between 2 weeks and a month until they sounded dull and uncomfortable.
