Worst Week Ever...

Hi everyone...

The last seven Days were terrible for me. I work as an IT service technician and i had to move a Server from Linux to Windows Server 2003. This shouldnt be that bad, but it started with a 14 hours shift just to get rid of all the hard- and software problems the former "specialist" had left. Next day was scheduled too, so i ran another 16 hour shift just to run into more problems with their mail server. Again their "specialist" had done good work to make it all the most complicate thing ever.

The next day i spent another 14 hours on their mail backup problem and started to plan things for moving from my old home to a new one. So, me and wife, reserved a transporter for the next day. It took me till late night to not finish the mail backup again. Next day i phoned a friend who is a server admin and he agreed to help (its so good to have friends that help you in every situation...). So i packed everything and drove to my old apartment with a stop at the car rental. They told me that they messed up the reservation and that there is only one transporter left for twice the price. We decided to take a look around and checked four more rentals all with the same result: no cars left.

The last one had a mercedes sprinter transporter that we rented. We then packed all the stuff into the transporter and then made our way to our new home. Besides packing an planning i was still trying to get that server to work and it was all very stressful... Around 10:30pm we had unpacked everything and i was on the way back to the car rental to return the car. Just 2 minutes after i brought home a friend that helped i was on a street just about turning into another street when i looked right, left and back to the right. The last i remember was the color of an ambulance, loud crashing and then i was stuck with the 7 meter transporter between the wall of a house on the opposite side of the street and another car.

The ambulance itself crashed right into the house corner. By the distance the cars travelled after the crash i can just assume they were way to fast and driving in the middle of the street. I had no chance to react. Luckily i had not a single scratch and could leave the car trough a window. The two young drivers of the ambulance got minor injuries from the airbaigs. Later i got some contact data from the police and i reassured that the two are fine. So no one was injured badly, just a big pile of metal. Summed up its about 200k Euro damage.

And, minor problem, but still a problem, the mail server backup wasnt done by then too.

The day after i had to drive to the car rental to fill out a crash report and besides that still had to finish work on the server. By 2 pm i was back at home and so burnt out that i had to lay down. But again i had to work till late night on that freaking server. And to complete the whole story i got realy ill the next day. I think the whole week of stress topped by a car crash just left my body defenseless for anything and i couldnt get up the whole day.

One think positive in the whole week, i just realized that i have some real good friends that helped me with my work when i wasnt able to do so. Two of them spend almost 5 days full on my server problems and helped me solve it.

So, now i am lying in my bed, trying not to think about the huge amount of money i will have to pay for the crash and all the other stuff.

Maybe this is not the worst week ever happened to someone but i still think its a "good" one. Ever had a realy bad week?

Man, sorry to hear that. Won't your car insurance cover most of the costs?
I think I never had such a bad week...

A sucky week indeed. But I don't think you will have to pay a fortune, insurance should cover you and the insurance excess should stop at the cost worth of a guitar.

Yeah, its good to have realy good friends smile.gif

The whole thing wont cost a fortune. It will be around 1000 Euro or slightly more. Thats hard, but manageable... The amount of damage sums up to almost 200k Euro. 60-70k for the Sprinter and the remaining for the ambulance car. Thats what one of the policemen said. :/

That sucks bigtime man, very unfortunate. Definitely had too much stress and body became ill. I hope it all went well after that, and I hope insurance will cover the costs man. Good thing you had your friends nearby so that they can help you.

That sounds like a real bad week... But, the cliche is also true, it could have been a hell of a lot worse. You got out of that car without a scratch (physically at least), that's amazing!

Accidents do happen, and in hindsight, you always consider the 'what ifs...' (one meter further, one second earlier, etc). I remember getting hit by a car once, on my bike. That 'what if' in that case was, what if the car couldn't move a bit to the left when he saw me crossing (no opposing cars)? I would have gone full frontal on the nose, and be seriously injured (or worse). Now, it only hit my front wheel and I crashed more in the side of the car when I fell down. No serious injury (not counting the fact that I was driving my sisters new bike smile.gif

Good luck!

Yeah, theres a huge pile of "what ifs..." for that day.. What if i hadnt rented a car and used my fathers transporter? What if i had decided to drive the shorter way my friend suggested (It was midnight so i didnt want to try a new route...)? And most important, what if my wife and my son had been in the car? Man, i could go on for hours...

But it happened, and i am glad no one was seriously injured and everyone is alive.

It happens when you stress, all the little things seem to pile up into a huge mess! Next thing all hell breaks loose. I think everyone has a day like that once in their live. The best thing is to destress and start over. That sounds like a hell of a week. sad.gif
