Question About Private Lessons...

How do you communicate with your instructor? Do I need a webcam or Skype? Or can we do it through chat?

I'm just wondering how a typical lesson goes... what the format and structure of it is.

Also, what's the age requirement if there is one? I might want my boy to take lessons too. Well, I do, but I don't know when I'm going to get him started. Does anyone have an opinion on what a good age is to begin learning? He's 8.

Thanks

I think it’s pretty much something you decide with the instructor but to my own experience (as a pupil here) a webcam will be necessary to be able to present your performance to the instructor, as a recorded clip. We’re not interacting “live” but my instructor posts a lesson as text/tab/sound file/ and I post my webcam take after I spent some time practicing and feel I have a good result. Then he comments on it.
You’ll get a private space in the forum.

Weather 8 is too young or not, knowing my own boys I think it all depends on your kid. Is he mature enough to be frequent with new lessons and practice and does he have his own engine to keep him going?
I think you’d be asking for trouble if you put yourself in a position where you’re the driver and the lessons are because you want it.

Be if he’s keen on it, why not have a shot at it to see how it goes? 

I think its great to introduce the guitar to him at as early an age as possible, but if he dont like it, he dont like it. smile.gif
Dont force a lot of theory and stuff on him if he doesnt care about it
