Ok, so here is my dilemma, my friend is selling me his Dean Schenker Signature V (FOR $150!!!!!), But it has no tree, and in case that is the incorrect term, i think it is though, it is at the end of the fretboard/ beginning of headstock and the strings either go under it, or they rest in the grooves of a (usually) plastic "Bar", sorry for the poor description.


In this picture look at the headstock close-up, see what the strings rest in (the white looking "bar")




Anyone know where i can buy one? i looked around at DeanGuitars.com and found nothing, same with samash.com, and musiciansfriend, any ideas?

Sure you don't mean the nut? That is what the slotted plastic thing is usually called ...

If it is the nut you can probably get a spare one from many places.

Yeah same thing i think, i think the tree is the one the strings go under, or maybe its not that at all, either way, ill keep looking.

Right - over the nut, and under the tree (not all guitars have them)

Yeah,that's tree but maybe there's no need for it?
If headstock has small angle regarding to whole neck
you really don't need it,like Les Paul per example.
Can't see if that's that type of the neck from these pictures tho...
But if you do need it I really don't know where to find it.

As Andrew referred, I'm pretty sure you are talking about the nut. This is pretty easily replaced. If this is a standard V, you can buy new for $299USD so I guess it's a pretty good buy if it is excellent condition. You could take it to most guitar shops and I expect they would install a new nut and set up the guitar for you for less than $50USD. Now, if this happens to be a custom with Schenker wound pickups it would be worth more like $500 - $700USD. Then it would be a great buy. Basically, you can buy this guitar new in three versions and used you can find authentic signature models with Certs of Authenticity. Either way, you really can't go wrong for $150 if its in good condition less the missing nut which is a very minor repair.

Ahh,you are talking of white thing and it IS nut on the picture.
But you also said that strings are going UNDER it which isn't case with the nut but the tree...

Well i have not seen this one in person yet, just pictures, and it looks good (he has kept it in a hardshell so there isnt any damage or anything), he said he had to take the "Tree" off to put on his Kelly, so thats why im under the assumption i need to find a tree.

oh, and its the "Mid-version" model of the schenker V, he said the original price was like $700 when his parents bought it.

I googled pictures of this model and can't see it does have a "tree" so you must be the nut. Cost a couple dollars on eBay

If you search further you'd find the right size.

You just glue it in place with epoxy.

Go to Ebay and look in guitar parts and try to type afew different searches.My opinion its your best option cause they really have just about any part you could think of.Also you could try www.warmoth.com or a place called steward mac thats a website online.Good luck im sure you will find one but you might just have to wait awhile till one becomes available online.



Ok sorry i just read the rest of these posts on here and like other's said i think you gotta be talking about the nut.This is a very simple part to find and inexpensive so you'll be fine

When you get the new nut it should be relatively easy to fit. I think the main thing to be aware of is spend time to get it located properly or you'll have problems potentially with strings binding. From the pic it looks like you'll have to glue/bond it in place. You might have to cut the string holes in the nut a little just to stop the strings binding.

That's a pretty nice guitar for $150. If I were you I would spend the few bucks to have the nut installed properly and have them so a set up for you at the same time.
