Steve has one of the best tones I think I ever heard. This is partially due to the fact that he uses his fingers to play, which is interesting.
Heres a video of probably his most famous guitar solo from the song Firth of Fifth, written while he was in Genesis (the video isn't a Genesis performance, it's a more recent Steve Hackett solo show, with a few other famous Progressive musicians)

Good first post. Really don't know much about him, but I enjoyed that, and was quite impressed. You might put your country on your profile, nice to know where people are from.

Thanks, I'm glad you appreciated his playing, not enough people give him credit. He's also an amazing classical player. Oh and thanks for reminding me about my profile, I just joined as you can tell, so I still didn't get to completing it yet.

Thanks for bringing up the subject of Steve Hackett. I've spent the last couple of days re-listening to "Selling England by the Pound" after reading your post. I feel a more prolonged listen to Gabriel-era Genesis coming on! Thanks again.

No problem smile.gif

It's good to know that there are other Hackett fans on this board too. Oh and don't forget the two albums he was on even after Gabriel left (Trick of the tail, and Wind and Wuthering) they're also amazing
