what I want is pretty simple actually
I just want to record my guitar in cubase. So im not looking for something with many audio inputs outputs and the price range around 200- 250 euros
btw OrganisedConfusion toneport seems exactly for what I m searching, thanks man

QUOTE (Vasilis @ May 23 2008, 01:48 PM) *
I agree
I also own a line 6 POD xt-live so thats another plus
Bogdan thanks but I'm an XP user and hopefully I'll keep working with XP for years to come

Erm, the POD XT-Live has an USB audiointerface... So why buy a Toneport? You already have what you need in the Pod

I think he needs a good quality sound card, not a USB interface device. Good quality soundcard with quality AD/DA's wil ldefinitely increase your sound processing quality.

The Pod XT Live has that - its equivalent to a USB soundcard really, and the A/D converters are pretty good. What it does lack though is a microphone amplifier, Its great for recording guitar, not so hot for vocals.

USB works fine for audio. The only thing that might be a bit negative with USB interfaces is that they can consume some extra needed CPU-power, which can be noticed if your running big projects in Cubase/Sonar/Reaper with vsti-instruments and lots of effects.

As far as recommendations go, then it seems like most have been covered by the others.

Though I don't find toneport limiting (I have ux2) for guitar recording only..I find its software simulations etc only a + for it..It has two xlr inputs , two Line inputs , two guitar inputs...And it can record two channels simultaneously though on not every combination of inputs there is on it (can't record two guitar inputs at the same time) but other combination work...I used it for lot of mic recording , voice stuff etc..So you pretty much can record anything with it , as with any other recording interface..You can easily kill all software simulations and use the dry signal.. smile.gif

I didn't know that. Should have suspected it though. It makes sense. I get a little wrapped up in avoiding things that are too guitar-oriented when I'm looking for something that's not something that's explicitly for guitar. I know that guitar isn't going to be the end-all instrument for me. When I get more comfortable, I'd like to learn other things and I'm paranoid about buying a piece of gear that I can't reuse for something else later.

I understand man! Well toneport is not only for guitar definitely, I can imagine using it for vocals, guitars, keyboard and micing stuff with one or two mics at a time...
Though there are lots of other devices which can suite you..

regarding toneport , keep in mind that it would not work with vista 64bit , because drivers are in development should come out in few months..

I also recommend Toneport 2, good device, and it can record two micprophones at once if you need it. Decent quality converters for the price also, and low enough latency to handle external software like Guitar Rig. Bare in mind that guitar rig is functioning barely on Toneport, but it can be used.

Also I recommend listening to some of the people's recordings here on GMC, in order to get the feel on what sound you like the most, and then you can make a decision.

Before making any recommendations can you tell us a bit more about what you need in terms of number and types of inputs and outputs mate and also a price range?

Tascam are generally a good brand btw and reasonable value for money but not usually the cheapest. One thing I would however suggest you do is check out any user forums here to see if they have posted any known issues with the Recording Software/s that you'll use.

Cheers,
Tony

I'm gonna get a Tascam so I'll explain my experiences !! wink.gif

I am extremely satisfied with my Creative EMU tracker pro 2.0 becuase it has direct monitoring of inputs, therefore, no delay!

I own a Line 6 Toneport GX... no latency problems here, even when I use my old notebook. Cheap and easy.

I'm sure there are more advanced devices, better ones, but if we talk about quality/price ratio, for me this GX rocks!

Cheers!

Use a M=audio delta series, dont use usb, use pci or firewire, check emu, and for that range of price you may get a used echo pccard (I got a Layla 8 in 8 outs for 150 bucks)

USB is to slow for audio application, if you can afford it I'll suggest at least a firewire one like the M-audio Delta series, the entry level is the dealta audiophile

USB is sufficient unless you have many in/outs.

for lots of application modulation, you'll need Apple software.
